Like a Choose Your Own Adventure book.
When the reader of the book has to make a decision….turn to page 43 meet your one true love, or, turn to page 76 to find enchanted magic.

Ooooohhhhh….that gives me an idea!!! The Ghosts of Christmas Past Present & Future….great opportunity missed for Adam and Eddy to have the Christmas Ghosts show either Rumple or Regina their past, present, and future!

WR: We don’t know how Snow or Charming would meet, but all the business over “I will always find you” should come to pass.  I mean it is fate that they met right? So it is a 50/50 chance.
Do you think Mal would come to love something if Regina hadn’t intruded? I mean we never got the whole Aurora/Mal story to begin with.
I would love to have to the Ghosts of Christmases.

Actually, there could be something to this notion. I recall in the last episode of OUAT in WL, Jafar threatened Alice that he would change the past so that she and Cyrus never would’ve met.
Alice: No. You’re underestimating mine. The love that Cyrus and I have is more powerful than any magic. No matter what you do to me, you can’t change the fact that you will never feel true love for yourself….Go ahead. Do it! All the magic in the world can never make you feel what I have felt. Real love, true love, cannot be destroyed. That is why you, Jafar, will never win.
Ultimately, Jafar did not make good on his threat to change the past, but it did get me thinking that the writers might play with this idea some more on the parent show. Alice said true love cannot be destroyed. To me this sounds a lot like what Rumple said in a deleted in scene in S4 that magic cannot be destroyed (much like the physical law of conservation of energy). And since true love is greater than any magic, than how much greater would this concept be? It hints at the notion that even if Jafar had successfully changed the law of magic to alter the past, that Alice and Cyrus still would’ve met, not matter what, because they have true love. What they had could not be destroyed, even when the other laws of magic were altered.

Wouldn’t it make more sense if these were really just visions Regina is seeing. Like alternate scenarios being shown to her by someone possibly through a looking glass.
In order for Regina to get her happy ending she has to choose. Change the past, or, look to the future.
Henry is her partner in Operation Mongoose, but in this journey he may also be the price she would have to pay for her HEA.
I think she will see, or be shown, through some sort of looking glass, how changing her past would affect her friends and family, especially the no Henry part. I think she’s come to care for Emma, Snow, David enough that it wouldn’t be as easy as she thinks to grab her HEA if it means they lose theirs.
We will see a few scenarios playing out, in visions, but in the end, out of frustration, Regina will smash the glass and choose NOT to change the past. But I think she’ll learn that she definitely is worthy of a HEA. She will look to the book to write future stories for her. Not change the stories already written.

I agree with this idea, it won’t retcon anything! Regina seeing that her choosing Robin back in the day, would cost her Henry…she’ll quickly decline the idea of changing the past. Especially when she’ll probably see that her and Robin would more than likely spend the rest of their lives running from King Leopold, who’d stop at nothing to bring back Snow’s mother/his trophy wife. A scenario which wouldn’t be the best Happy Ending.
