They also said time travel didn’t exist in OUAT world (season 2 comic con, I believe?). Ya never know. And maybe its not “time travel” but..fixing things to be the way they were before the author changed them… if that makes sense.

Exactly! What I was referring to was an Alternate Universe being formed, no time travel.
Regina’s Happy Ending = Everyone Else Losing Their Happy Ending/Existence = No Henry
I really do believe that’s where we’re headed with this Season Finale, and it explains why Henry is the only person left in Storybrooke. If you look back, it could parallel a lot of Regina Moments.

As sad it is…had the Evil Queen never existed and Regina met Robin Hood in that Tavern…No one’s happy ending would have came true. And I think realizing the price of her original happy ending, was not only everyone in the Enchanted Forest’s Happy Ending, but it cost her Henry…I think Regina’s going to move heaven and earth to get things back to how they were because she’s just not going to erase her son, or even Emma, from existence. As sad as her life became, and as horrible and evil she did get….it all did end up getting her son, who is her most prized treasure.
At the end of this season finale, I think Regina will have a big moment of realization that Operation Mongoose was nothing more than a wild goose chase because Regina will realize that her family, Henry, Robin, Roland, Emma, The Charmings, Zelena, & Maleficent….they were her happy ending all along.

Au’s are often sloppy and un-fulfilling for an audience because they are almost always set back to “square one” by the time the arc is over. Nothing gained or lost in an AU story, which means the emotions invested by an audience are ultimately for nothing. This is not to say it’s can’t work as a good story, but AU and Time Travel have the same problems of pretending to reset the board when they really don’t.
Also, the other problem that is more specific to ONCE is that the writing team has enough issues with continuity without adding another universe of stories on to it. Not saying A and E won’t do it, or that’s not where this is going, but it can often be a misstep in a show.

Maybe this is the “final battle” Rumple mentioned in the pilot. And Rumple and the QoD did talk about starting a war in S4E14 “Enter the Dragon.”
