Just binged watched the entire Merlin series and they had a “Cup of Life” which was used for both good and evil. Merlin also utilized disguises to hide his use of magic in that series since it was outlawed. I can see the cup being important for Rumple perhaps but may not necessarily be part of the search for Merlin. So excited for the season to start.

I tried to find a picture of the grail that appeared in that one episode. Here it is. The cup charming is holding and this one are clearly not the same cups. Make of that what thy will.

Merlin is supposed to be fairly crafty, though. I pictured him keeping out of line of sight but being able to watch everything from the sidelines and laugh at the silly humans trying to find him. Eventually they find him (just in time for his first centric) but until then he can still be around without being found.
I think we’ll get Merlin fairly early on, because otherwise they wouldn’t have cast Elliot so early on, let alone announce it. They normally cast guest stars relatively close to when they start filming.

Yup that pretty much confirms that 504 is a big Camelot episode. I said “Broken Kingdom” would likely refer to Guinevere and Lancelot since their love is what tore Camelot apart.
