Food for thought: can you die in the Underworld? Gaston seems to think he can at least hurt Rumple/Belle with that arrow.
Yep, and not only that, u can die after already being dead which is, ok not even sure if there is a word to describe that idea.

I guess the people really aren’t completely dead…they’re more so in a purgatory of sorts, for people with unfinished business who either are killed and sent to the literal afterlife or finish their unfinished business and pass on peacefully to the other side, or they have somewhat of a possibility of returning to the life of the living.
Cora and Henry Sr.: Unfinished business with Regina, proper goodbyes, closure and all that stuff.
Peter Pan & Milah: Unfinished business with Rumpelstilskin, also closure.
Blind Witch: ????? Absolutely no clue.

I suppose that makes sense; it would explain why what we’re seeing is Hellbrooke instead of an actual Hell-like landscape as described by Rumple. I just don’t get how Hades fits in since he is supposed to be the ruler of Hades, the Underworld. Something tells me we’re over thinking it, per normal

January 20, 2016 at 9:32 pm #315321TheWatcherParticipantI know this will be answered in the premiere, but I actually still don’t understand the purpose of this inbetween limbo purgatory realm. I mean, in religion, spirits eventually move on from Purgatory after some time right? I know in some religions they can move on fasster if the living prays for them, etc, etc.
But this doesn’t seem to have a purpose. Okay, I buy that a person has unfinished business, but assuming they cant return to the land of the living, how can that business ever be resolved? And therefore, how can they ever move on? I just don’t understand right now.
Also, I meant to say earlier: That flower Hades turns to dust. It’s from the movie. Hercules gave Meg a a flower and hades turned it to ash. Just throwing that out there.

Well. A few things here.
1) Limbo = / = Purgatory; Limbo is the edge of Hell while Purgatory is its own place
2) Purgatory is VERY tired to Catholicism, not “religions” in general. There are some religioins that have a concept of an in between phase but this idea of a purgatory to further atone is *very* Catholic.
3) People do not go from Hell to Purgatory. If you go to Hell, then you go to Hell (until Christ returns but we’ll save that for another day). If you go to Purgatory, then you still experience some sort of pain/torture/punishment/atonement until you move to Heaven either through those punishments or because your family has prayed/paid for you.
4) Greek mythology did not have a concept of Purgatory just like they didn’t really have a concept of Hell as we understand/believe in it today.
So it’s more like OUAT is plucking tiny bits of mythology for their own purposes. Hades the Greek deity, The Underworld in name but not spirit but with a feeling of Punishment-In-Purgatory with spirits who have unfinished business.

Based on Hades shocked expression with the flower…I would guess that something is going wrong in Hell. Life is all of a sudden springing forth in the one place it never should…nine times out of ten due to the Savior Emma being in it’s domain. Emma’s ultimate light magic is bringing life to a place full of death. Hades being Hades, will not like someone bringing something tragically beautiful into his beautifully tragic domain.

That’s probably exactly what it is. Well done. It makes mythological sense too given Emma’s Hero/Savior status/trope. I actually think it’s rather clever (in the sense that I’m amazed A and E have enough hero-story knowledge in their noggins to make connections like this).

Well, yeah , I meant in general some religions have a “pleasant afterlife for the good” a “punishment for the wicked afterlife” and then some inbetween place.
What I mean is, it just doesn’t make sense that this world is for spirits with unfinished business because it doesn’t seem like there is any way to get resolution and move on. Basically: “How the heck do they get out of the underworld?” For example, let’s say Cora’s unfinished business was to reunite her daughters. How they heck could she have done that from the underworld? Mila has been there for centuries so clearly she hasn’t been able to do whatever needs to be done for her to get out of there. Idk. I guess I’m trying to understand this show without having the pieces.
In other news did anyone see the Robin Williams movie where he died and went to the afterlife, and then had to go save his wife from Hell? I watched it like a month ago, loved it. I can’t wait to read the book. I forgot the name. But yeah. I recommend for any who haven’t seen it.
