Yep, Aladdin and Jasmine get my vote too. The only time that they have been honest about new characters for a premiere was Season 4 – and that was because of all the Frozen hype.
For Season 2, they put out a call for Magnolia and Anastasia – which turned out to be Mulan and Aurora.
Season 3, Robbie Kay was just cast as a Lost Boy.
Season 5 like others have said, they put out a call for Rumple’s mother which ended up to be Merida.

They were also honest when casting Arthur and Guinevere, because we all knew that they’d be exploring more Arthurian mythology, when it was confirmed that they’d be searching for Merlin at the end of Season 4.

Sinbad sounds a lot better than Aladdin to me. We’ve had a heavy dose of Disney — not a bad thing in itself, just that it all feels like shout-outs and fan service after a while — and so I’m hoping that “The Land of Untold Stories” means “stories that Disney hasn’t done yet”.
I agree that it would be better to have a non-Disney character because it gives the writers more freedom for creative development. The show’s done a far more interesting job with the likes of Emma, Rumple, Red, Baelfire/Neal, the Snow Queen than with the Disney princesses.
