Maybe Ariel was only in NL flashbacks and might just have been stranded in SB during the curse. But I like the idea that she can realm jump the best.
I’d originally been thinking that they weren’t actually physically in the same place, and Belle was just an apparition in NL, but given that Grumpy is on the beach too, maybe it could be the other way around? Ariel doesn’t seem to have a tail. She’s got the purple bra top, but the bottom just looks like a skirt, and it’d look a bit silly if they CGI’d a tail onto her if she’s standing on land. So the legs and fairytale costuming make me think she’s human in NL, which probably rules out traveling between worlds underwater like mermaids can maybe do, without actually needing a portal. And NL is meant to be a hard place to get out of, so I dunno if she could just pop through any old portal either on land or in water.
An apparition sounds a bit crackpot, but it sounds like maybe we’re getting something like that for Rumbelle in 302, and if so, they could do the same thing again, just tweak it so Ariel is appearing in SB instead of Belle appearing in NL.
There have been those theories about the Rumbelle thing maybe being possible through a magic mirror, which could potentially belong to a mermaid. And now there’s Belle, talking to a (former) mermaid.

Re Ariel on land: but she’s wearing some very odd shoes, as if they need to be CGIed later. And this is between takes as she is wearing a coat so it could be that she will be resting in the water during the actual filming.

Could be. Though the pic where JoAnna’s touching the bag almost looks like it could be an actual rehearsal, maybe? And I’d hope that even if she’s lying down, she wouldn’t have the tail as well as that skirt, because it’d be overkill. The skirt looks to me like something HumanAriel might wear when she’s bumming around in NL. There does appear to be something funky around the bottom of that skirt, but I can’t tell if it’s something on her feet or just some other special effects gadget of some description. Tried zooming in on it before, but it’s just a blur. Whatever it is seems to be poking out from under the skirt though, and her legs seem to be well and truly under the skirt, and I dunno if her feet would poke out that far? Maybe they’re little fans to blow the strands of the skirt up a bit to make them look floaty?
Regarding Ariel, she might have the ability to transform from a mermaid to a human on dry land (like she did in the CC promo and like the mermaid in the film “Splash”). If so, then Ariel’s fin might transform into a skirt magically for the sake of modesty, instead of her just ending up naked every time she comes ashore.

That would make a lot of sense. So we see her pop out of the water as a mermaid and then she becomes human as she swims toward land.

Have never been convinced she’ll be able to change because they’re always saying magic comes with a price so I dunno that it’d really fit if she made a deal to be human, but still also got to be a mermaid, getting the best of both worlds. But if they do intend to have her transform back and forth, then the skirt would make sense.
