From Spoiler TV, http://www.spoilertv.com/2012/11/once-upon-time-episode-212-role-being.html
For episode 2.12, the role of Gerhardt is being cast. He’s a handsome, idealistic military man in his late 20s, with a family he loves.
I’m not going to say it’s Bae because I believe I know better now, but I can’t wait until we know for sure to stop all of this madness.
I wonder if it’s suppose to be Maurice in a flashback because Rumple is suppose to be a driving character, so it could be Belle’s backstory. Her dad was in the military, and he does love his family even if he’s on everyone’s bad list right now, so that would fit.
ETA: Maybe Maurice decides to join King George’s side in Storybrooke, or it could be an episode about King George, himself.

I just finnished writing in other post… “give me a soldier…and I would say he is Baelfire” and read this.
I’m going to mantain my promise, whatever it could be the final result: Here my vote to Baelfire!

November 9, 2012 at 5:24 am #160086naomiParticipantA long time ago, just after Season 1 ended, I thought that Bae would have become a soldier too. He seemed to have the heart for it. (shrug) That would be one crazy twist after all the Neal speculation. I guess we have to wait to see who they cast…about 1-2 more weeks and they should announce it.
I know we’re due for Belle’s backstory…but Rumple was in a war too. Maybe we’ll see how Rumple got his injury? His limp is still a huge, glaring mystery.
Another possibility: I know Gerhardt doesn’t sound like a name that would fit in Mulan’s story, but if we’re brainstorming about military men with families, then probably the most important one would be Mulan’s father, right?
November 9, 2012 at 8:48 am #160098PheeParticipantIf Bae became a soldier, that would be deliciously tragic, because the whole reason this Dark One business that led to the curse began, was because Rumple was trying to save his son from going to fight in a war. If he ended up in a war anyway, that means that all of everyone’s suffering was for nothing. As depressing as that is, it could make for a good storyline.
November 9, 2012 at 10:33 am #160106thetricksterParticipantI’m curious… do they say that Belle’s father was in the military? We see him discussing estrategies, but he was a king, ruling the army movements during a war comes with the job. Apart from that I wouldn’t expect, from what it’s shown, that he were more engaged in that… did I miss something? -it can be 😳 –
Being part of Mulan story could be interesting, but in his late 20’s… is it not to young to be her father? maybe a brother or something…
Regarding the ironic of Bae becoming a soldier, well… here, there is a saying that goes: “if you want your son to study law, make him believe you hate lawyers”.
November 13, 2012 at 10:11 am #160564PheeParticipantIt wasn’t mentioned exactly what his status was. In the original story, he was a wealthy merchant. In the Disney version, he was an inventor and people in town thought he was crazy. On Once, he seemed to be a ruler of his land, but it wasn’t mentioned exactly what his position was. If he was in fact royalty of some description, it’s not unusual for members of a royal family to serve in the military.

Sorry I meant to reply earlier. Jane Espenson tweeted that Maurice got his land and title through fighting under someone of power. I can’t find the tweet now though unfortunately.
So I thought that military man father + Rumple being a driving character + K&H saying that there would be Belle centric episode this season might equal this being her episode.
It makes sense, to me at least, that her episode would be gotten out of the way sooner than later because I think the last third of the season will be devoted to the fight between Cora/Hook/possibly King George and the good guys/Rumple/Regina, and we’ll finally find get the Bae-centric episode in there somewhere.
November 13, 2012 at 1:29 pm #160574naomiParticipantDoes that mean we get to see young Belle?
