If the Sultan called Jafar “bastard child”, I wonder who Jafar’s mother is and where did she go?

Well for sure it’s not the Sultana. Often times when Kings or the like had children with other women other than wives, they would, while not acknowledging them, at least set up the child and mother with a good life and provide for them. This does not seem to be the case. My guess is that Jafar’s mother was a poor peasant woman who found herself in the Sultan’s bed for his pleasure and was then dismissed. She probably died early on in Jafar’s life, thus forcing him into apprenticeship with the man at the beginning of the show.

Sadly, that sounds very plausible. Yet, I hope for Jafar’s sake that his mother didn’t just die in childbirth but that she lived long enough to show Jafar love and kindness he probably longed for. What if she died trying to provide for him (a la Fantine and Cosette in “Les Miserables”)? What if the reason Jafar wants to change the laws of magic is to bring back his mother to life?

I totally forgot about that part.
November 8, 2013 at 1:42 pm #222248PriceofMagicParticipantWhat if Jafar’s mother lied to him about his father being the sultan? She died and Jafar still believes the lie she told. When Jafar went to the sultan with his claims, the sultan put two and two together, if Jafar didn’t know who his father was, then he was obviously an illegitimate child.

But why would his mother lie to him about something like that? It would be strange to show the audience that his desire for revenge against his father (and it be the thing that fuels him to do horrible things, supposedly) end up being not true at all. If they were going to go in that direction, they’d better show us that soon or otherwise I don’t think it would make much sense, but that’s just me.

I hope we see Jasmine and Aladdin in a future episode.

I like this. She probably lied to comfort him and he took it seriously when he got older, believing it to be true. That would make for an interesting story. Imagine Jafar breaking down in tears when he realizes the sultan isn’t his papa :/ talk about emotional if our heroes actually comfort him

Then it turns out not to be true.
I hope WL gets to finish out its run, really sad the ratings are not doing good.
