I can get why you find it weird that Henry and Baelfire/orhisdad are bonding while Emma is lost somewhere, hjbau. But, on top of what Faux Pax said, the show does seem to make parental bonds pretty important, instantaneous, etc. I’m thinking mainly about Snow and Emma here. I know a male adult and child aren’t going to be exact replicas of two grown females, but I do see them interacting and getting along to start. Maybe Baelfire starts talking to Henry trying to gain intel. about his dad and things pick up from there.
It will be interesting to see how Charming handles this guy. If he keeps talking and interacting with Henry, I can see Charming distrusting him – before he even learns about the guys history with his daughter.
@AntBee – The reviews of the 1st episode do state we’ll have a surprise opening scene, with a character we’d never expect…I’m thinking Bae is going about his business in our world when he feels the burst of magic envelope the land. Since in my idea of canon reality, he’s linked to both Henry and Emma – he feels the pull very intensely![adrotate group="5"]September 28, 2012 at 2:13 am #154614faux paxParticipantAnd the best part about him getting to bound with Henry while Emma is MIA, would have to be her reaction when she comes back and sees what had been going on while she was gone. Sigh. I kind of have a feeling the writers arn’t going to give Emma an emotional break this season…but then again, i don’t think we’d want it any other way. 😀
September 28, 2012 at 2:37 am #154616hjbauParticipantWell it seems like it is the father, Bae, at Coney Island is the opening scene of the episode. I just don’t like the idea of Henry bonding with the guy, if they are just friendly a bit then fine. I also dislike the idea that the guy may know who Emma is, the savior, daughter of Snow and Charming because how would Bae know any of that. If he just knows that Henry is his son and Henry doesn’t know then that wouldn’t be so bad. I may just dislike the idea of Henry bonding with someone when i would much rather see Emma get to be his full on mother and we already know we aren’t going to get to see that.
I do like the idea of Emma’s reaction when she comes back, but her reaction had better be to keep Henry away from him until we figure out whatever happened and they work it out.
September 28, 2012 at 2:53 am #154617lilredParticipantWhy would Bae know about any of this? Henry’s dad wasn’t told about his kid – and, if it is Bae, he would have no reason to think Emma was from his world. I agree, it would be hard to like the character if he was aware of any of this nonsense going on in Storbrooke/Curse. I do think he’ll recognize magic again when he feels it and feel a ‘pull’ to Maine.
Okay, so I was in exams the last few days (when there was an onslaught of spoilers – still catching up), but where is Coney Island coming from? I’ve seen it mentioned a couple of places now and I’m very lost.
Sounds pretty cool, though. Traveling from New York to Maine would explain MJR absence for a couple for episodes. I think someone (possibly AntBee) brought up an idea of the Giant being some type of pro-wrestler – maybe Baelfire worked for some carnivals????
September 28, 2012 at 3:01 am #154618faux paxParticipantI don’t think he would know, and that’s the beauty of it. It could play out that if Emma hadn’t acted definseive about Bae talking to Henry, she would have been able to keep it form him a bit longer. (Now you know it’s been too long since the last epp–My mind has already run away to the point that i’m talking like my theories have already come to pass).
I don’t know about Coney Island, but i do have an idea about how Bae gets to storybrook if he didn’t know any of it. Rumple used true love to boost the power of the well (the one that is suposed to return what has been lost) to bring back magic. But magic wasn’t the only thing he lost. Parhaps as a side effect of the well, Bae is brought to storybrook. As Regina said, magic is unpridictable in this world, so it’s possibel Rumple had no idea it could happen.
September 28, 2012 at 3:03 am #154619hjbauParticipantBae wouldn’t know. The thing is if he would know Rumpel and if he could know Rumpel and spoke to others then i would imagine they would know too. If Bae is smart then he will try and blend in with everyone and pretend he is from town and not coming in from outside. We just don’t know how this is going to play out.
I just don’t like the idea of Bae being the father even though i really think it is true, but maybe once we meet the character i will like him more then i do just objectively as a name right now.
September 28, 2012 at 3:18 am #154620faux paxParticipantPersonally I love the idea of Bae being Henry’s dad, but you do have a point hjbau. We don’t really know him or how he has changed since coming here. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Sorry that was me. Matt Mitovich from TV Line got to see the premiere early, and one of the hints he gave was this, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHYE0D6FjXw. It’s a link to Lou Reed’s Charley’s Girl which is from the album Coney Island Baby. I think the album is supposed to be the reference, but I could be wrong.
It could refer to a Cyclone happening since that’s Coney Island’s most famous attraction. It could be some kind of reference to underground since Lou Reed was in Velvet Underground. It could mean the song itself which is about a guy who falls for a girl that gets him into trouble.
Yes, I brought up the Giant being some kind of wrestler because I know two very famous wrestlers who used that nickname. I think Jorge Garcia might be playing an actual giant now though, and his story is separate from Henry’s father’s story with Emma in “Tallahassee”. However, I think being a carny would be a good fit for Bae as a job. They travel around a lot, don’t have the best reputations, and it’s probably a relatively easy job to gain after leaving the foster care system. Or maybe a traveling circus or carnival found him or vice versa when he came here, and he just stayed with them.

Also Bae wouldn’t have a whole lot of understanding of how this world works, only being here for two or three years before they let him out of the system, so I don’t think he would do as well in school as the other kids (not that he’s not smart or anything, he just wouldnt’ have the same background info). As much as this fits, I kind of want to see him with some Millitary experance just as a kind of middle finger to Rumple.
September 28, 2012 at 5:27 am #154624hjbauParticipantBae’s a carny. lol. That is just too funny.
I just think that something happened between Emma and the father, whether Bae or not, and i want them to deal with that before Henry starts bonding with him. That bothers me. Also Charming has barely been in scenes with Emma and personally i would rather see Henry bond a bit with Charming then with the father, at least until he and Emma deal with their issues.
