Who do you think the outsider (Ethan Embry’s character) could be? The show seemed to zero in on the Pennsylvania plates of the car that crashed in the end: 2KFL-138. What is the significance of the the state and/or number? Is that a “Lost” Easter-egg?

While I’m still holding tight to my Bae/Neal/Peter Pan theory, something tells me that Barrett may be Peter Pan. David Barrett is one of the directors for OUAT. Wilson Barrett wrote a 1902 screenplay called The Never Never Land which many feel is where J.M. Barrie got the name Neverland from. Brent Barrett plays Hook, alongside Cathy Rigby in the current production of Peter Pan and another David Barrett wrote a musical version of Peter Pan.

I do know that 2KFL is part of a mathematic equation for fractions.
The # 138 is an integer (whole #)
The other definition of integer is ‘something in and of itself’
So, maybe, that’s what the clue means….this character is ‘in and of himself‘……he is really just an outsider and not any other character……idk….just an initial thought…..need more info on him 🙂January 16, 2013 at 1:13 pm #168647ceegeParticipantI was hoping that the driver of the car was going to be Neal. I had not realised that the plates from from a state other than N.Y. (where Neal is from). Did we actually see the driver? Everything happened so fast, I barely had time to register what had happened.
I am hoping that the driver does not not turn out to be Bae – that would be too easy for Rumple to have his son come to him. Of course, there could always be difficulties on an emotional level, but I’m hoping for a journey here, a physical one as well as an emotional one.
Just speculation here, but I’m wondering if the accident was caused because the barrier spell works both ways – keeping Storybrook residents in, and outsiders out. He would have managed to get through presumably because when he wrote the spell, Rumple did not know about cars and how powerful they can be. Just a thought.

I think the previews for next week's episode are considered spoilers, but I think that's the only time we got a glimpse of the driver being Ethan Embry and not MRJ.

Yes, I don’t think it’s going to turn out to be him because Ethan Embry doesn't look like a young Bae at all since he doesn't have brown hair naturally and has blue eyes. Not that he couldn't be, but aside from August and young Pinocchio, the actors and their younger counterparts have looked alike.

That’s definitely a logical conclusion. However, given the casting call for Ethan Embry's character, I think he's someone that's not from our world because he's suppose to be
“a major recurring guest star role with an option for next season […]. A character named Barrett. He's in his 30s, kind and smart, but also has a very dark side and has beliefs and a way of life that he will fight fiercely to defend.
. Not that he couldn't decide to try to blackmail the townspeople into using magic to help him in order to keep their secrets, but from the casting call, I just get the impression that he's very powerful and dark in other ways besides getting the Storybrooke citizens to do what he wants because of him threatening them with whatever position he might hold in the real world.
Based mostly on the casting call and a little on how his character was introduced, these are my guesses on who he is.
1. The Sandman (some type of variation): This season has contained many references to people's unconscious and people either awakening in some way starting with Aurora being awoken from her curse and then seeing the town realize who they were, or conversely now in Belle's case this past episode where the Outsider just happens to come into town, we have someone forgetting who she really was. That's mainly why I think that Barrett could deal with the unconscious in some way because this season seems to be tied to that for some reason.
I know that It doesn't necessarily have to do with his character, but if he were someone from the dream/unconscious world, I think he could definitely fit in with the rest of the casting call that he has a very dark side and a way of life that he will fight fiercely to defend.
2. Peter Pan: Although they say we wouldn't see the Peter Pan story this season, I think it still works if Barrett is Peter Pan, and they don't reveal his back story until next season. Of course, I don't really think of Peter Pan being a dark character, with the twists that they throw in, it could be that their version will be darker than other versions. I just love this idea because him running into Hook and doing some serious damage to Hook, based on spoilers, seems like such a great way to introduce Peter Pan. Plus, Ethan Embry's face looks like what I think an adult Peter Pan would like.
3. The Wizard of Oz: The license plates do seem to be a big clue that he could be the Wizard of Oz, but then again the license plates for August gave that impression to. I know they'll get do Oz eventually, and it would tie in nicely right now with the upcoming Disney movie in March, but I think the license plates could be another red herring.
4. Dracula/Someone from Dr. Whale's Transylvania world (assuming Transylvania is Dr. Whale's world): The timing would certainly fit, and I think the show really missed the boat by not having Ethan Embry be Dr. Whale's brother because they look so much alike. There was also speculation that based on the Pennsylvania license plate that it could be a hint to Transylvania because of the sylvania parts of both.
Other than Dracula though, I can't think of another character right now that might come from that land, and unfortunately I don't really think of Ethan Embry as Dracula. Not that they have to go in the stereotypical direction for Dracula, but I would have my doubts that they would cast Ethan Embry as Dracula.
5. Just a regular outsider: He definitely could be, and it would help motivate the characters in wanting to get back home more if they think that our world might be a threat to them now. I'm just not sure because I think that the show wants viewers who don't follow spoilers like we do here to think that, but then do the twist of him not really being from our world.
I do think eventually our world will start to be a threat, but I almost feel like now might be too soon. It's good that they're laying down the groundwork of that, but I think there's still a lot that they can do in exploring their worlds before using the idea of our world as a real threat.
January 16, 2013 at 2:36 pm #168655kalliopekiseesParticipantIt appears Ethan has been an actor in several OZ related films. Could that also be a clue. I really like all the possibilities people are coming up with.
Antbee – Have you ever read the Sandman comics? I would love to see them bring the characters to life. My favorite (aside from Dream) was Delirium. She would be an awesome character to cast.

Good job! I like it Gypsy!!
January 16, 2013 at 3:23 pm #168666PheeParticipantAs per that post that EvilQueen linked to up thread, I’m currently TeamWizard, because the license plate clues seem to potentially point to an association with Wizard of Oz.
January 16, 2013 at 11:26 pm #168761@midgemarlyParticipantI’m rooting for him to be Dr Whale’s brother, considering the theme of the next episode.
