Yep, it was a given that he’d be back at some point. Looks like he’s shooting in the middle of a forest, so Phillip’s up and gettin’ around again.

I know dead is dead…technically. But technically Philip only had his soul sucked out and hasn’t truly died, right? Maybe there’s a spirit land or a place with lost souls, between life and death, like a purgatory…and in that realm Gerhardt meets Philip and helps him return back to the land of the living?
Either that or we’ll see one or both of them in flashbacks.

Adam and Eddy strongly hinted that we didn’t see Philip actually die – his soul was just sucked out by the wraith. Also, yes, there is a spirit land, and we’ve already seen it feature when Aurora and Henry sleep. It’s not just a dreamland, since Rumple called it a “netherworld” between life and death where the soul travels as a consequence of the sleeping curse. That’s why both Henry and Aurora are experiences the side-effects even after having been awakened. I think it’s very possible that’s where Philip’s soul is, along with the countless souls the wraith sucked up.

But then what’s with the medallion that soul sucker trapped him in?November 24, 2012 at 7:38 pm #162051SlurpeezParticipant@EvilQueen wrote:

I’m loving these ideas especially in light of the unconscious/conscious themes running through this season.
I guess I was so blinded by Cora and Hook joining the show that I didn’t realize that they had it planned since the beginning with having Sleeping Beauty being awoken to open the new season. Besides Sleeping Beauty, there was obviously the new threat of the Wraith being released and sucking Phillip’s soul.
Then, in the next episode everyone in Storybrooke has to accept that if they try to leave town, they’ll have one set of their memories erased from their mind forever.
“Lady of the Lake” is a little trickier, since nothing sticks out as much as the Wraith or dreams, but it could be that because Snow was unconscious Cora is able to get closer to Emma than if Snow had been conscious which inadvertently leads to Emma revealing information about Henry, which is how Snow and Emma are able to tell that Cora is really Lancelot.
In “The Crocodile”, Maurice would rather that his daughter lose memories of her FTL life and only have her memories of Storybrooke rather than have her stay with Rumpelstiltskin.
Next, Regina begins visiting the person who represents the conscious in Storybrooke. There’s also obviously Daniel being brought back from the dead, and Dr. Frankenstein experimenting using science trying to bring back people who have died, specifically his brother.
In “Tallahassee”, Henry’s dad sees a dream catcher for the first time, and wants to keep it after Emma tells him that it’s like flypaper for dreams. (He also still has it as shown in the first episode.) More importantly, this is where viewers find out that Aurora has been having the same nightmare, and that Henry has too.
Further, in “Child of the Moon”, we learn that people can communicate with each other through their unconscious minds. I guess technically Ruby’s story could also tie in since she wasn’t sure if she had killed Billy or not because of the state her mind was in at the time she was a wolf again after not being one for almost 30 years.
Of course, “Into the Deep” was all about dreams.
Now I also wonder if Barrett is connected into the unconscious realm in some way because it makes sense for an important character, like it seems he will be, to be connected to that realm. Maybe someone does something that they’re not suppose to like maybe Cora or maybe even a good character, and he comes to Storybrooke to “fix” it. Or maybe he has some other purpose in mind. It makes sense, imo, because he wouldn’t necessarily be an “evil” character like Cora is, but he would definitely could be very gray. If he thought that whatever a Storybrooke resident or residents were doing was hurting his realm, I could see him justifying his dark actions in that protecting his realm was the greater good. In that way, he could parallel the Blue Fairy.

OUAT is known for taking things from all kinds of things, I mean they even have a sprinkle of Greek mythology. If your theory about Barrett is correct, do you think he could be the sandman and that the netherworld is his home, or perhaps he rules it?

He’s been cast in a pilot, dunno if it’s guaranteed to get picked up yet.

That’s a fun idea about him being the Sandman! He’s a character from folklore, so he’d fit right in.

Yes, the forest in Julian Morris’ picture could be linked to the “Forest of the Dead” that Mulan mentioned in 2×8, the same episode that Cora offered to retrieve Philip’s soul for Aurora!
