Curious about the captions. Do they work off a version of the script for the captions? Did the person writing the captions just assume it was a seagull because the bird flew to a ship?
I am not a bird person but do other birds fly over deep waters? Seagulls fly out that far, don’t they? It’d have to be a bird that could do that.
(ok. someone go research water birds…)
Anyway, at the moment I’m thinking Neal sent the message, because it had to be someone who knew Neal’s address and that there would be stuff in the apartment that could help Emma, which narrows it down to either Neal or Rumple IMO.
Yeah that’s a big problem—Ariel wouldn’t know Neal’s address. August might, though, if Pinocchio recovered his memories?

There’s no reason for Hook to put that down. Is it a production error, or a clue that he didn’t write the address? We never knew how he found Neal’s place in the first place in Manhattan.
We know Cora didn’t give it to him. What if the “map” Hookdeciphered was actually Neal’s address, and Rumple wrote it complete with zip code for Belle to be able to ‘magically’ send a letter using whatever magic let’s MM have a credit card and Regina adopt, and phone calls to work–ie no one notices things in a big system so magic can happen without being observed as happening by anyone in the real world.
Sometimes the little details mean the writers/production team just messed up and with some imagination we can “fix” it for them by “magic” assumptions, sometimes its a plot hole, and sometimes its a clue we’ve yet to understand.

The fact that it’s a full address leads me to believe someone in-the-know gave it to him. Someone who lived in our world long enough to know proper American addresses and who knew where Neal lived.
1) August–sent postcard to Neal in 201. But has since regressed to Pinocchio. But if he got his memories back then it’s possible. Bird is also how Neal and August communicated
2) Neal–obviously he knew his own address. We need to know what else the message said. Was it just “go after Emma!! NEW CURSE!!” Of was it a “here’s what is happening and what I am working on and trying to do but I need you to help me, Hook. Go after her while I try to handle this end. I trust you to find her. Tell her to go to this address.” (because seriously, why would Hook think to himself, “I’ll tell her to go to Neal’s old place!” He wouldn’t know there was anything significant in there.)
3) Rumple–knows Neal’s address. But why reach out to Hook? Why not David, if he can’t find Neal or Belle?

And we do know that Ariel’s coming back, and she and Hook will be interacting. Anyway, at the moment I’m thinking Neal sent the message, because it had to be someone who knew Neal’s address and that there would be stuff in the apartment that could help Emma, which narrows it down to either Neal or Rumple IMO. Hook’s playing it like he doesn’t know who sent it, but I do wonder if he does actually know. His story changed about how he got the potion, so perhaps he’s slipping up with the half truths as he’s trying to not reveal all he knows. Perhaps it was actually Ariel who delivered the message, and she was sent by Neal, who we know has the know how to summon sea creatures. I would think that when everyone got returned from whence they came, Ariel became a mermaid again. If Neal ended up in a position where he learned that the Curse was coming, and he wanted to get a message to Hook to help find Emma, and he knew that Hook would be off somewhere on his ship by that point in time, then Neal giving the message to Ariel would make sense. She’s had the role of delivering messages before, so it wouldn’t feel out of place if it was her.
I’m with you. I think Neal sent it before whatever happened to him that has kept him from showing up yet, happened. He sent it with Ariel who had to pass it off to Scuttle. There was a little more in the note, but Hook doesn’t want to upset Emma about Neal.
Hopefully, Ariel will also have a fish & a crab helping her find Hook too, because that would just be awesome! 🙂

I think Hook may have some suspicions but I can’t see him choosing to straight up lie to Emma but carefully selecting what truth to share is a pirate thing to do.

I don’t think he’s lying or working for the witch either. Carefully selecting the truth is a good way to put it. He is protecting Emma or Neal or both.

I think he’s protecting both. I think he’s protecting Emma by keeping some big secret about Neal–potentially that Zelena has him captured. If Emma knew Neal was captured, she’d go after him. But her main job right now should be trying to break the Curse.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"March 19, 2014 at 12:40 pm #254154kfchimeraParticipantMaybe there’s something to do with the original curse. Remember what Neal said that them meeting could have stopped the curse from breaking? What if Neal and Emma being together actually literally is one way to STOP the curse from being broken, along with say, her being put in a coma ? We know there were 2 ways to break it, her TLK with Henry and her death. What if Rumple didn’t care (originally) about being in a cursed bubble world as long as he could be with Bae again, so he wrote it that if he had Bae, and Bae were happy (and he would be if he had Emma), it couldn’t be broken –ensuring (Rumple would have thought) a happy ending for his son?

I don’t know if they work off the script or listening to the episode, but I looked at his mouth and it seems to be saying seagull.

If it was Scuttle then it’s a minor miracle that the message got delivered at all 😉 (I love him, one of my favourite Disney LM characters, but a one man… or bird disaster zone!)
