I agree. I would imagine that the dagger cannot be broken unless the curse is broken.

We know Bae didn’t run away after Rumple became the Dark One, but SOMETHING happened. Otherwise, Bae would be in Storybrooke with the rest of the characters, right?

Rumple said the dark curse was THE curse to end ALL curses…maybe the curse is supposed to end all magic. He said the true love potion would be the ultimate magic and that you could do anything…including getting magic to destroy itself?
That favor Mr. Gold wants from Emma, maybe this would be the final act to take magic away from their lives forever. And to end his own curse.

Yep, that’s pretty much what I reckon. He had to gain as much power as possible because it was the only way to ultimately rid himself and his world of magic.

He also told Cinderella that the fairy godmother’s wand was pure evil. I think he want’s to get rid of all magic- not just to break his curse- but because he really believes all magic is evil
As for why he needed someone else to break the curse, If true love is needed to break the curse, he would need another person since he believes no one is capable of loving him.
April 17, 2012 at 1:09 am #142603charmingParticipantRumple at the beginning asked for Snow and Charming’s baby girl’s name for a reason. He also created the curse. He bottled Snow”s and Charming’s hairs. He is triggered by Emma introducing herself to Granny with Red and Gold present. He asks for a favor to cashed in later for Ashley to keep her baby Alexandra. He has seemed to retain the power of foresight which is proven yet inconclusively confirmed by after the election. Emma’s a Princess in her own right heir to Snow and Charming. What if all of those prior dots connect to him via Emma breaking the curse, becoming human again, eventually finding the thing he loves the most, and totally seizing control of everything and everyone. All at others’ expenses. Everyone is going to destroy each other and he will captialized on all of the chaos to be the ulitimate top dog, becoming the hero and redeeming himself while everyone else will take the blame.
April 17, 2012 at 4:32 pm #142663killianhookfanParticipantTechnically Rumple is human now – since he is in his Gold form. However, if the curse is broken and it destroys his Dark One curse so that if he were to return to his FTL form and were to be a human again – I don’t see him wanting everyone to turn on one another in order to come out as top dog. When he was human prior to becoming cursed he appeared to have compassion. He appeared to be truely concerned about the little girl that was being taken to the Orge Wars and what the Dark One did to her parents. He appeared to be poor but he gave money to the Dark One (not knowing that he was the Dark One yet) simply because he was in need. In my mind, redeeming himself would mean that he is going to right the wrongs he has done while he was under his curse and under the dark curse which would mean that he would do would everything he can to try help restore everyone else’s happy endings. I don’t think having everyone turn againt each other really furthers that cause.
April 17, 2012 at 6:57 pm #142678hjbauParticipantWas Rumpel concerned about that little girl being taken? I need to watch that scene again i think. Rumpel just seems ridiculous in that episode. Not well acted, in my opinion, nor well written.

Whoa. I soooooooooo disagree. I think it was one of the most well-acted and well-written episodes of the entire season. Right behind Skin Deep and the Heart is a Lonely Hunter.
But hey, I guess we’re all entitled to our own opinions. But we should probably keep negative comments about the actors themselves out of the conversation. 😉
April 17, 2012 at 7:12 pm #142687hjbauParticipantI disagree. I think that it is more the reasonable to say i think an episode was badly acted. I still think it is the worse episode of the series so far and has made me think that the character doesn’t make much sense at all. And usually the actor is pretty good though not as good an actor as the women, in my opinion, he has still had some nice moments. This episode, still my opinion, was not one of them.
