If Rumpel wanted the curse on him broken he should have just let Belle kiss him and be done with it. He should have been happy when he saw the curse breaking and not angry.

I disagree. I think that it is more the reasonable to say i think an episode was badly acted. I still think it is the worse episode of the series so far and has made me think that the character doesn’t make much sense at all. And usually the actor is pretty good though not as good an actor as the girls, in my opinion, he has still had some nice moments. This episode, still my opinion, was not one of them.
Once again, I disagree with you. I think that episode revealed a lot of interesting things about Rumpel. I loved the mythology and history behind his character. And I definitely disagree with you about his acting. He was phenomenal. But then again, you hate Rumpel, so I’m kind of wasting my breathe. 😆

Things aren’t that simple. Rumpel is the most enigmatic and mysterious character on the show. No one has a clue of want he really wants. I could easily see Rumpel coming to the realization that he wants to break his curse after Belle “died.” After two of his most beloved close ones, Baelfire and Belle, tried and failed at getting Rumpel to let go of his powers, he probably realized how his powers effected everyone around him. Tragedy tends to spring new inspiration in people. It’s called redemption and character development.
Another simple answer to your question is that the writers needed to create a show that lasts past a few episodes. 😆 If Rumpel allowed Belle to break his curse, then the show wouldn’t have even existed. 😆

I don’t know why that has to mean that i hate him as a character. I don’t get how anyone can think the character is good and know i am totally wasting my breath as well.
Maybe Rumpel did change his mind after Belle “died”. They just need to show more of that. With Regina they have been hinting all along what Snow did that made her start to go to the evil side. With Rumpel i have no idea. It almost seems like he can still control himself when he is the dark one. Though if he can’t help but make deals then that could be why he is doing all this evil stuff even though he seems to be in control because maybe he isn’t. They just need to explain it a bit more because right now it doesn’t make sense.

Dude, they already did. 😆 He became evil when he became the new Dark One. He’s being possessed by a dark power. It’s pretty simple. Regina became evil because of a tragedy that millions of people have suffered. Rumpel was turned into a demonic supernatural being. I think there’s slight deifference. 😆
And I actually really liked Desperate Souls. It was the episode where Rumpel became my favorite character. 🙁
April 17, 2012 at 7:53 pm #142707hjbauParticipantI don’t think so. Rumpel may be possessed by a dark power, but i think they are implying that he can still control it and be good like in Skin Deep with Belle though that did not end well. We need more information. Everyone can like Rumpel and think that he is good and i am fine with that. I am going to like him and think he is evil and be fine with that. And i am not sure what you mean by the laughing icons so that is all i have to say. Thanks for your thoughts.

I just don’t understand why thinking Rumpel is evil seems like such an off the wall theory especially because it seems like all the characters on the show think he is evil. Isn’t that the implication? I don’t want to argue, but no worries. All good on my part.

No, I understand. *Hugs You* 😀
April 17, 2012 at 8:16 pm #142717mickeyParticipantAnd what does that mean to be evil or to be good, or to be right or to be wrong. I think we overuse these terms here. People are more complicated than this, they do not deserve to be tagged like this. Since book/film characters are supposed to somehow reflect real life people, we shouldn’t expect them to be so one-dimensional.
He didn’t let Belle transform him because he believed that she was working for the Queen, and the Queen was using Belle to strip him of his powers. I think it was made pretty clear in Skin Deep. If she suceeded God knows what she would do with him.
Besides a powerless Rumple wouldn’t have his happy ending with Belle with the Evil Queen waiting at his doorstep. He was probably aware of that. -
