True the lines between god and bad are very unclear. Every character has demonstrated both good and bad behavior which resulted in good and bad circumstances. Rumple/ Gold is clearly on one side and one side only; his own as well as his agenda. His endgame is unknown. His gameplan is undefined. His methods are unorthodox but gets the results. He’s the ultimate wild card. He’s likeable because he seems to have fun. That’s why we like him. What he does can border on the hate side. Remember he works both sides. Who know knows if he has a side picked or if he will ever pick one.
Unless I am missing something, this question was definitively answered in “The Return.”. Rumple created the curse in order to follow Bae to the land without magic. Right?
@ weedith: Agreed. Based on the conversation Rumpel had with the Blue Fairy, he said he’d find a way to come to this world, a land without magic, even if it meant enacting a dark curse. He said he would and he did. Also, when he still believed August was Baelfire, Mr. Gold said to him he’d traveled all this way after all this time just to be with Bae.
"That’s how you know you’ve really got a home. When you leave it, there’s this feeling that you can’t shake. You just miss it." Neal Cassidy
Totally agree. The price paid was FTL being gone. I beg to differ on the magic. Jefferson said Emma brought magic back. August mentioned to the affect of Emma not believing. I think those two comments are connected if magic is to come to SB even though there are traces of it.
Well, we finally have an answer! Rumpel needed to find a way to find his son. This also explains why he wouldn’t allow Belle’s kiss to take full effect. He needed his power to find his son. So, if he had allowed Belle to break his curse, he would have been scrificing one for another. Very sad. 😥
I think Rumpel wants the curse only partially broken so then he will be able to leave the town and find Bae.
