Yes I did forget about Regina and didn’t even think of it as nature/nurture question.

Though RG’s point about BF’s comment could be something they play with as well.

We’ve often speculated that the BF sent Bae out of FTL because of something inside him. What if she saw the Shadow within him and sent him to where magic doesn’t exist, but during the trip through the portal the Shadow separated from Bae and went to NL where it’s been searching for it’s “body” all this time.

    Good point RumplesGirl 😉

Could be! Maybe when Rumple became the Dark One, part of the price he paid was something dark also taking root in Baelfire. Perhaps Blue sent Bae to A Land Without Magic, not only to send the Dark One to a place where his powers would be useless, but also to separate whatever bit of darkness had latched itself onto Baelfire when Rumple became the Dark One.

Well somebody lost a little of their magic mojo going through or nearly going through that vortex. 😀

Ok, back on that name thing Henry was in NY and looking at the mail boxes he stated Belfire and nothing happened so I don’t think the name thing works. August with the typewriter he was a writer so he tried to make it more dramatic so Neal would listen.

This reminds me of that little theory I’ve had for ages that The Dark One was created when Blue – “the original power”, suggesting she maybe once possessed both dark and light power – did something to try and rid herself of her darkness, and it split off and became The Dark One. Maybe someone in NL tried something similar, and now the darkness is looking for a new body, the same way The Dark One curse has to possess a body. Maybe the Shadow somehow heard rumour about Rumple, and decided that if the father went for it, so might the son, so that’s why he started looking for him as a prime candidate.

Interesting. But it brings me back to a question I asked a few pages ago: if this is true, if it just wants Bae to possess, then why is it keeping the other boys captive?

Simple, he wants to keep them as company and/or have minions at his disposal.

At that point though Rumpel did not have his magic.

But when Gold used the globe he stated Belfire’s name then.

What is strange why did the shadow wait 6 months latter to come for Bae, that shadow should have came just as soon as Bae arrived in England not till he was with the Darlings. ❓

That is a very good question.

Hmm… Maybe the shadow cannot forcibly take anyone with it; that person must willingly go with the shadow. Just like in Evil Queen/Snow case, the poison apple won’t have the effect on Snow unless Snow willingly eats it.

The shadow tried to find Bae and found Bae even before Bae arrived at the Darlings. But the Shadow knows that Bae will refuse to go with it willingly because Bae has no interest in anything magic, so it had to wait.

When Bae was with the Darlings, the Shadow knew its chance had come. It lured Wendy and made a deal to release her by taking one of her brother. Knowing that Bae would sacrify himself for the Darlings, the Shadow now could take Bae as Bae is willing to go in place of the Darlings’ boy.
