I caught OUAT by chance while I was flipping the channels on a bored Sunday. Prince Charming riding on a white horse caught my eye. So I put down the remote and watched a bit further. Riding up to Snow White’s coffin, I thought intriguing…why are they showing the ending to Snow White? Then Ginny pops out of the coffin. I thought Oooo I know her from Big Love (HBO) I love her!
So I kept on watching now that it’s gotten my attention then suddenly a few minutes in, it switches to modern day? What now? What happen? Why is there a little boy on the bus? Am I watching the same show? I’m intrigued now…
Few more minutes in I suddenly see Robert Carlyle in a creepy get up, acting crazy in a dungeon. I loved him from Stargate Universe (which at this point was recently cancelled, bummer) OK now you’ve gotten my interest.
I did watch it on and off again since the Pilot didn’t quite gauge my obsession yet. But after A Heart is a Lonely Hunter’s shocking ending. I was hooked.
And the rest is history…

I had saw commercials for it, and even tho this show is right up my alley, I didn’t give it the time of day. About 3 weeks after it aired, I heard Kristin van Straten had played Maleficent in the 2nd episode. Since I LOVE her as snarky vampire Pam on TrueBlood, I wanted to see her play one of the most evil villains so I watched the first episode online…then I was hooked 😀 the show was AMAZING and then I watched the second episode online and started watching all the rest as they came on tv. Eventually I started looking at Once theories and somehow found this place, where I staalked the forums. My friend made an account (but eventually I stole it from him) and now its my account 🙂 the rest is history and now I visit everyday 🙂

My parents and I watched the premiere, and though my mom was indifferent to it, my dad and I have been watching ever since. 🙂
November 26, 2013 at 1:39 am #226368arnabanarnaParticipantI started watching from the pilot on. My mom kept mentioning it to me for months leading up to the premiere…the way she described it I thought it would be a mini series retelling of the Snow White tale-I was so wrong. I watched because I love fairytales. I have warm memories of those stories from childhood. And although I could pick out things I didn’t like about individual episodes, I felt Once really did most of the characters from those stories justice. Â I remember certain elements seemed cheesy-the CGI in the first epi- the way Regina glided across the floor at Snow’s wedding like she was on a treadmill, and some of the costume choices, specifically the Blue Fairy, her skirt was so bizarre (it has since grown on me). But I had to keep watching after I saw the pages in Henry’s book turning over (in the car crash scene) to reveal numerous other stories and worlds I knew would be touched on. I loved the air of mystery in season one and all of the easter eggs and trinkets in gold’s shop that figured into the story. It was like an adult version of Blue’s Clues! I continue to watch and still enjoy the story but miss many of those elements from season one. That first season was pure magic. I feel the same way now about it that I do about the fairytales themselves.

Once Upon a Time is practically tailor made for me…seriously, it’s as if someone said “Let’s make the perfect tv show for Angela!” It has all my favorite fantasy elements for a story- fish out of water themes, fantasy characters and magic in our world, story mash ups and crossovers, and of course- Disney references! I used to write this sort of stuff as a kid! At 13, I wrote “The Great Disney Switch” about Ariel, Belle, and Jasmine switching places. Ouat is the show I would write myself if I could.

November 26, 2013 at 3:18 pm #226479Sarah_TNParticipantI started watching Once from the very first episode because I was intrigued by the thought of seeing the stories and characters I grew up with placed in a different setting. I wish I could say I was happy by what I saw, but I can’t say that. I feel like creativity could be better, and that there’s been too much death, doom, and gloom. Those reasons are what disappointed me, and because of unmet expectations, I stopped watching early S2. I jumped back in after “The Crocodile” aired. In all 100% honesty, I know Once upon A Time isn’t the Hook show, but he’s why I still watch. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be hanging on.
