is it because he was worried that it’d still be Henry in that body? was Pan expecting it and had a plan to switch back somehow?
because EVERYTHING Gold tried went against him when it came to pan. the box? he ended up in it. The squid ink? he ended up squided too. the cuff? he ended up wearing it himself.
hey maybe this is why the only way to overcome Pan was to be willing to die? because if his opponent is also dying, he can’t SWITCH anything, because he’ll die even if he does switch? cause his opponent is dying too? do I make any sense?[adrotate group="5"]January 10, 2014 at 9:15 am #236141RumplesGirlKeymasterRumple didn’t kill PP in his sleep because Rumple wanted to confront his father. Show him that he had won. To Rumple’s knowledge, with PP being cuffed, PP was rendered powerless. He didn’t realize PP could remove the cuff.
From the episode :
PP: thought you’d have killed me in my sleep, laddie. Guess you’ve change–(notices cuff on wrist) You’ve taken away my magic. That’s why it’s so easy for you to strut around and pose, isn’t it?
Rumple: I wanted to talk to you. I wanted you to see me and think about what you’ve done.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"January 10, 2014 at 10:13 am #236149ready_to_rumbelleParticipantApart from wanting to confront Pan, Rumple considers himself a man who sticks to certain values and killing someone while said person is asleep is the lowest (sorry Regina 🙁 ).
He knows that he has done a lot of horrible things and probably didn’t want to add another thing to that list. And as RG said he wanted to talk to Pan, though I don’t think he wanted to gloat and show him he had won, but maybe he hoped for Pan to show regret, similar to Cora who at last told Regina that she would have been enough. Rumple might have known that his father was a bad guy (I can’t say the word I want to because kids might read this 😛 ) but nonetheless hoped for some kind of reconciliation.
January 10, 2014 at 10:14 am #236150CindersParticipantThe relationship between Rumple and his father is so deep and complex, it’s confusing. If he dies, I die. Very complex, and very confusing.
We know that Malcolm created Neverland through his lovely thoughts, dreams, and belief. It was meant to be a magical place. Malcolm was portrayed as selfish, juvenile, a dreamer and a scoundrel. He was a poor father, but in my opinion, he was not portrayed as evil. Bad guy yes, but he was weak, not evil.
However, just as Malcolm created Neverland in his boyhood imagination and belief, I think that Rumplestiltzkin actually helped create the evilness in Peter Pan. I think as a boy, in his not so lovely thoughts, dreams and belief, he came to know, and helped create, all the evilness we saw in Peter. Rumple believed it so strongly it became fact. His father was evil. An evil masterpiece created by Rumple.
He didn’t kill his father as he slept because Rumple himself was still posing. Still pretending he was stronger than his father. Still wanting to gloat, by trapping him in a box, by taking his magic. Still not wanting to acknowledge that it was time to kill, and let go of the evil he had helped create. He couldn’t kill his father until he truly believed he could.January 10, 2014 at 10:31 am #236153Marty McFlyParticipant@ready_to_rumbelle when did Regina kill someone in sleep??
but I don’t know if Rumpel cared about killing Pan in his sleep… I think he was genuinely afraid that Henry might still be there, because he’d already made the mistake of putting Henry in the box. (I LOVED the apology “I’m sorry I put you in the box, Henry” was so Awww..) His father was a switcheroo guy so he was afraid, I think@Cinders my first reaction to your post was WHAT???????????????????
but now I think of it… YES!! it was Rumpel who created Neverland!!! remember he wished for that cake? it just appeared, and then HE is the one who made up the rule that only if you’re a boy can you fly… and his dad made up the rule that you must have pixie dust. remember, neverland is made up of thoughts. just thoughts and dreams…. OMGJanuary 10, 2014 at 10:39 am #236155CindersParticipantI think Rump’s father created Neverland, a magical place. Rumple just helped put the evil in Pan. Malcolm was a scoundrel and a coward. In his own mind, Rumple added the word evil and it became real.

Regina had her husband poisoned while he was sleeping in “Fruit of the Poisonous Tree”. Yes, it was the genie who put the snakes on the king’s bed but Regina manipulated him into doing it.
I think Rump’s father created Neverland, a magical place. Rumple just helped put the evil in Pan. Malcolm was a scoundrel and a coward. In his own mind, Rumple added the word evil and it became real.
Well, I guess that’s up to interpretation but in my opinion someone who trades his son in for eternal youth and the ability to fly, and allows a creepy shadow to rip him from his parent already has something evil in him. And after the shadow showed PP the hourglass, he was determined to prolong his life no matter the cost and searched for the heart of the truest believer for several centuries.
January 10, 2014 at 11:04 am #236160sweetgrassParticipantI think Rumple wanted to confront Pan and make Pan afraid. he wanted Pan to suffer for hurting him and rumple wanted to feel powerful to him himself and his father. basically it is the same reason he made the solider kiss his boot before killing him. Rumple is a coward but with his power he is not and can confront anyone who knows the truth about his cowardice. It’s like Hook said in the Outsider, Rumple needs to show how strong he is to compensate for his true cowardly weak self.
i know lots of fans want to excuse Rumple’s behaviour in his early dark days as being part of the curse. I see it as being the result of wanting to hurt to the villagers for his suffering. it’s why he didn’t move to a castle initially and stayed in his village. he wanted to terrorize everyone so that they were afraid and felt like cowards. He wanted to also show them how powerful he was. Basically, e wanted to project his feelings of cowardice on others, so he could feel powerful. that is what he was doing with Pan. like Bae, I don’t give Rumple a pass.
for me the only question is Rumple still a coward because of one non-cowardly act, I see that act as more unselfish than brave. If he had run away an done nothing, he would have suffered more so I don’t find him that brave and he still used magic to kill his father, by using a magic dagger and his flying shadow. I will give him that he was finally not selfish and was motivated by his desire to save Bae and Belle.
Keeper of Hook and Emma's smoldering first kiss, a certain Pirate's sauciness, the Evil Queen's snarkiness, Grumpy's gruffness and a drop of true love to make it all go down smooth.
January 10, 2014 at 11:08 am #236162Marty McFlyParticipantI always had the feeling that Rumple created Peter Pan by naming that voodoo doll PP. according to Malcolm, names make things real, so by naming himself after the doll gave Peter Pan extra power?
I wonder what would have happened had He killed him in sleep. would Henry die? or would Rumpel be saved?
I REALLY want to know what Pan was about to say when he started saying you changed your– and then he said Oh I see you took away my magic…
changed your – WHAT?January 10, 2014 at 11:20 am #236165RumplesGirlKeymasterI REALLY want to know what Pan was about to say when he started saying you changed your– and then he said Oh I see you took away my magic… changed your – WHAT?
Most likely, “you changed your ways” because the Rumple he expected would have killed him in his sleep, no questions. The Dark One Rumple who hasn’t reunited with his son or has the love of his life, would have killed Pan in his sleep. But Rumple has those things and he has a desire to confront his father and show him that he won. Hence the no killing.
