Hi everyone! I’ve been trying to figure something out about Rumplestiltskin. We know that he has the ability to heal people. In “The Doctor” we saw him heal Dr. Whale’s arm and in “The Outsider’ he healed Belle’s wound. If this is so, why do you think he hasn’t healed his own leg? Why does he still use his cane in Storybrooke (besides the fact that it seems to come in handy as a weapon)? I actually like the fact that he uses a cane, but I’m just wondering why he doesn’t seem interested in healing his leg now that magic is back in Storybrooke. Any thoughts on this?

It could have something to do with the fact that he had the injury before he had magic plus the fact that magic is different in this world. So, maybe he can’t heal it?
Or maybe he has just decided to keep it unhealed because it reminds him of his old self pre-Dark Curse.

I think Rumple literally CANNOT heal himself, because the dark powers prevent this, the dark arts come with a price and I guess that price is the deterioration of his soul and body (crocodile/beast) I guess it could be like the genie, that he cannot wish himself free, someone must do it for him, so rumple cannot make a curse to get rid of the BAD things that come with him being the dark one. MAYBE but i could be wrong....

This is what I think too. It’s a constant reminder of the life, and type of person, he’s hoping to get back to once he finds Bae.
It’s curious that it didn’t automatically heal itself though, which is one of the things that has me wondering just how strongly the Dark One Curse is functioning in our world. Obviously he still has his magical abilities, but he hasn’t taken on the physical characteristics that the Dark One Curse gave him. Ruby changed physically now that she has her magic back, so why hasn’t Mr Gold?
But then, there isn’t really a consistency to how magic being back has changed people. Ruby reverted to her true form because magic was back, Archie stayed as his original human form instead of the magic making him change to his magical form, and Gus remained human instead of reverting to being a mouse. Guess we can just chalk it all up to, “Magic works differently here.” 😉

However, in ‘In the Name of the Brother’, when Hook is with Emma on the ground and taunts Rumple, Rumple walks over to Hook and kicks him. But he seemed to kick him fine. and he kicked him with the leg that he limps on. Maybe I’m reading into this too far, but it keeps coming back to me.
Maybe its a price he had to pay for bringing magic to SB.February 1, 2013 at 1:26 pm #171180mich7Participant@SwanHook wrote:

The Gold identity may be the only thing keeping him in check (from looking like he did in FTL )

It is more like it is an instrument that he just wants to have with him at all times. So maybe the cane is a magic wand or staff that he has transformed so no one will notice.
February 1, 2013 at 5:51 pm #171216MatthewPaulModeratorMaybe he really only needed the cane when he was originally Mr. Gold, before he met Emma and regained his FTL memories? He could also simply have the cane as a weapon whenever he needs it, as he has demonstrated on Moe and Hook. 😆
