It was a big deal when fanfiction even made it into the Oxford dictionary, as an actual word in our English language.  50 Shades of Gray, which has roots in fanfiction is going to be a movie soon and now, there’s an actual book about fanfiction and why, it’s taking over the world and Jane Espenson is a contributor.

The brilliant @prof_anne's new book Fic is blowing up!http://t.co/b3LfYmAKHm So honored to be a contributor. Congrats to all!

Fanfiction has been around forever but just to have a book about it. This is freakin’ awesome people!

Just read this description. It reminds me of one of books I was required to read for Creative Processes in college.

What is fanfiction, and what is it not? Why does fanfiction matter? And what makes it so important to the future of literature?

Fic is a groundbreaking exploration of the history and culture of fan writing and what it means for the way we think about reading, writing, and authorship. It’s a story about literature, community, and technology—about what stories are being told, who’s telling them, how, and why.

I want this book. I’m a fanfiction writer and reader, and I need this book.

Where did you get the information, that Jane Espenson is a contributor to the book? Because she isn’t. Brad Bell is (GoGeeksGo, producer, writer, star of the sitcom Hudsbands, which he created with Jane Espenson) Guess you missread the tweet a little, happens. 😉

But Amber Benson (actress known best for her role as Tara on Buffy, but also writer of urban fantasy, screenwriter, director), and Rachel Caine (writer Weather Warden, Red Letter Days, Morganville Vampires, working on producing a webseries of the latter with Amber Benson in a role btw) contributed besides others. Here a list of contributors

Since Shades of Grey fanfiction gets some more attention and is taken slightly more serious.

But book is on my list as well. Sure it is.

They did a panel at the SDCC’13 (San Diego ComicCon 2013). Someone recorded most of it http://youtu.be/aAprlzh0DSI
Audio only and not best quality (and warning, some people should consider chewing gum or whatever never in public, it can be annoying)

    ¯\_(?????? ?)_/¯

thanks for posting this–my sister’s looking into genre and power structures in authorship for her studies, and this is a perfect rec for her.
