ParticipantThere is something I hope will be addressed this season, as it was not properly addressed last season (remind me/correct me if I am wrong!)
**Why record the history of what the characters are doing in the first place?
To simply record history for future generations to learn from? (In which case wouldn’t the book or copies of the book be more readily available to all?)
Or is there another reason?
Any theories?

ParticipantIts history. The same reason we in the real world record it important events too.
I am more concerned with the fact that the on goings in other lands are known in this world before they even happen. Thats more suspicious.
THEORY: The Author records and spreads the stories to generate belief. Magic runs on belief. Magical realms run on magic. If belief is gone those worlds will cease to exist. Its like the “God Needs Prayers” trope. Something similar happened in the book series about the kids at Disney world who had to fight the villains ( I came recall the name) but anyway, every child making wishes and believing every night at Disney world actually brought the characters to life. If its the same thing in OUAT if they don’t tell the stories people will not believe in magic and these worlds will never be.
Merlin is a prophet. And so was Rump. And we know the future is never truly what it seems. That explains alot. Merlin foretold things of the future for certain stories and told them in advance to certain people who passed the stories down. The details were not exact and ofcourse they got changed a lot too as they were passed down but eventually the stories came true as he foretold. The Author records the true events as they occur."I could have the giant duck as my steed!" --Daniel Radcliffe

Yes, I came up with a similar theory last year on this board (or was it three years ago just before Neverland?) that belief is being harnessed in someway to create magic….belief from anyone who reads the stories including from anyone in our world.
Ah yes, it was on another board just before NL. I was inspired by the original tale of belief needed to make fairy dust work, and the awe of the Lost Boys when Wendy told them stories. Neverending story was also an influence on my theory. I different angle to my theory also suggested that belief from our world was used to create the other worlds…so the Evil Queen only exists due to the previous belief in her existence. Her story (The Original Snow White) was told over and over for centuries, generating centuries of belief until she came into existence. Doesn’t explain why 1) RH and EQ would exist at the same time and 2) Merida has been round for a couple of years and needed only a bit of belief to come into existance. Oh well.
Either way, just like you I am waiting for them to explain why Merida, RH, WW and the EQ can all be alive/exist at the same time, even though their tales started decades and centuries apart.
