To start this off, I know Disney would never let this happen. With Frozen becoming a huge franchise and getting a (possible and probable) sequel, a stage play, books, etc., I knew the writers had to play this by the books. However, this is a post as to why I think having Anna dead would a.) give Elsa a good character arc about controlling her magic independently and having a stronger parallel and b.) giving some credibility as to why Frozen has come to Once besides RATINGS.

Ever since we saw the “let it go” scene at the end of the S3 finale, I was apprehensive about them tackling the current big Disney trend. Sure, the movie was good. The songs were cute. It’s one of the top ten highest-grossing movies of all-time. But this didn’t seem like anything else but, “WE WANT TO STAY ON THE AIR SO GIVE US RATINGS NOW.” However, when we started learning some details about the plot (the biggest point being how long the characters will appear throughout the arc), I began wondering, “Hey, they could actually do something credible with this.”

Then Season Four started. The first episode gave a slow start to the season, but I had some faith that they could do something good with this story. They set-up two things: Anna going on an adventure and Elsa wanting to find her sister while still having trouble with her magic. This got me thinking, “What if they have Anna die during this journey, thereby growing Elsa’s character so that, when she does find out, she has learned to control her magic and can accept it?” Yes, Elsa would go through her grief, but having Anna go on an adventure for her and being able to achieve what Anna always wanted for her: to control her powers independently.

This theory carried on until the end of 4×02, when Bo Peep’s staff (still something that makes me angry, because this one thing has so much potential, even from a stupid character!) confirmed what I knew would probably happen – Anna is alive. Then, with seeing filming pictures of Anna and Kristoff in Storybrooke, I knew she wouldn’t die.

This disappointed me because, if Anna did die, this would open up so much potential for the storyline. Elsa could go through a great storyline with controlling her magic andEmma could also learn how to control her magic instead of using it only when she’s in life-or-death situations. Plus, they could still use the Snow Queen story, as Anna doesn’t seem to be a big part of it (in the present day, at least).

Instead, she’s alive. And because of this, it seems to confirm what I initially believed – Frozen is being brought in for ratings. This made me upset, as a.) besides a boost with the first episode, the ratings have since dwindled down to S3 numbers and b.) these characters have a lot of potential, and that potential is being wasted.

Instead, we are getting main characters being butchered, messy love triangles, and a psychopathic and cleavage-obsessed Snow Queen (who I love for being absolutely crazy). Now, we’re going to be getting villains galore in 4B (even dead ones!) and a possible retcon of the Wonderland ending. I just wanted to through my two cents into this.

Let me know what you guys think! 🙂

The death of one character leading to growth of other characters? On this show? (That comment is directed at the showrunners, not at you.)

Yeah….no way ABC would have allowed them to kill Anna. Could you imagine the angry calls from parents about their kids crying over the fact that they killed Anna?
