I think Rumple needed the curse to broken, or at least weakened, so that the true love potion would work. In Fairytale land, he needed James (Charming) and Snow to be together so the potion would be at it’s fullest strength so the curse could be created. While in Storybrook, he needed them to be together so he could bring magic to our world by using the true love potion. He doesn’t really care if everyone remembers their true identies or not, he only cares about himself and finding his son. However, he needed them to remember so the potion would work in the well.

I also believe that Mr. Gold/Rumple is only wanting the curse WEAKENED and he needs the magic so he leave Storybrook and find his son.

But if his potion is so magical, then why couldn’t he just break the curse with it?

How about because he couldn’t get to the potion without a second elevator operator and fighting the dragon would be difficult with a limp and no doubt there are curse-related reasons with Emma being the only one who could kill the dragon.

I don’t think that Rumpel needed them to remember to put the potion in the well. I don’t think he cared about that at all. I think he only cared about getting the bottle of love so that he could put it in the well and bring magic back because it would give him power. It is all about power for Rumpel.

yeah, it would be pretty hard for him to fight off the dragon with that limp. or run very fast. 🙁
