I heard Daniel, Jeremy and Jenny comment about this. Why was Rumpel walking so far ahead of belle?

Well…it was probably really painful to be so close to the person he lost, but loves so dearly. Not be able to hug her, hold her hand or kiss her… as she has no memory of him. It must have been really hard to see your true love like that, and them not remember you.

Belle at that point didn’t have her memory back and Rumpel probably wanted to give her some space. Otherwise, if he lingered very closely, it probably would have freaked her. Why is this guy who I just met keeping this close of an eye on me?

I agree – she looked slightly weirded out when he hugged her so emotionally in the shop.

When Belle asked him to wait before saying his name, Rumple didn’t even look at her as he spoke. It was only after she said his name that he stopped and looked at her. He was probably trying to distance himself from her to protect himself. He thought she was dead for so long and for her to then turn up in his life, alive, and not remember him must have felt cruel.

I think Mr. Gold just wanted to keep his distance for a while. Belle hadn’t regained her memories yet, so he probably didn’t want to creep her out by being too touchy feely. She seemed a little confused in their first reunion scene when Mr. Gold hugged her, so he probably wanted to respect her personal space until she regained her memories.

Gold was on the verge of getting back his power and (he thought) his son. Letting himself be close to Belle could have ruined those plans.

^I don’t think so, because he moved her into his home immediately afterwards.

by then, the curse was broken and she remembered their FT past.

Yeah, that’s how I interpreted it too. Being too physical with her probably would have frightened her. So, it was better to keep his distance for a while. Or at the very least, until the curse was broken and she regained her memory.
