This is my theory:
The Wicked Witch is causing trouble in FTL. She learns that Regina cares for a small boy in the Land Without Magic and because she is too classy to go and retrieve him herself, she sends out a heron to fetch the boy for her and bring him back so that she can kill or torture him or whatever. This heron is Hook.
Using the power of the ruby slippers, she sends the pirate back to our land with instructions to kidnap the boy or else she will kill him and everyone else. So Hook agrees but naturally goes back on his deal, trying to kiss Emma to revive her from the curse memories and get her to HELP him by coming back to the EF and defeat the witch. This is what I think:
-Why is HOOK sent? Emma doesn’t know him!!! Sending Neal would be better because she has memories of him and has reason to trust him! Regina could have also gone because she has spent 11 (13?) years raising Henry and probably knows a lot about him, enough to convince Emma that she should listen to her. But sending Hook is like sending Snow or Charming. It means nothing to either Emma or Henry.
If Hook was chosen to go back for Emma, once again, WHY? The person who sent him must not have cared Bout the relationship or friendship he has with her or lack thereof. They sent him on a simple mission, in my theory, that is to simply get them both Emma and henry back or kill them. If the good guys were behind this, they’d have sent either Regina or Neal. If the bad guys are behind it, they could have sent ANYONE. Which is what’s happening.
Any other ideas?

I think the reason he is there is really simple: he is the most logical. Like this:
–Neal: can’t. Emma knows him but only knows him as the guy who sent her to jail. She is more likely to smack him than to listen to him.
–Snow: can’t. She can’t show up and say “I’m your mother!” they are the same age. Emma would think she was loony
–Charming: can’t. see above with Snow
–Belle/dwarves/misc characters: don’t know Emma well enough.
Hook knows Emma but because she doesn’t have a complicated (less complicated than Neal let’s say) history with him, she is more likely to listen to him. He won’t try to complicate life by saying he’s her long lost parent but he can still reveal information about her life that she wouldn’t expect him to know.

For one I think that Snow and Charming are going to find out what exactly Neal did to Emma in the past and it’s hopefully going to stop Snow pushing Emma towards Neal.
As for why it’s Hook that goes and nobody else, it’s a mystery but to me Tink likely contributed. Perhaps gave him pixie dust? Perhaps he just decided he was going to go no matter what and likely whatever the reason is the writers chose it to be strictly him and I suspect we’re gonna see exactly why and what means he used to get back to her in the back half via flashback.
The important thing is he found her and he spent an entire year thinking about her and likely spent just as long trying to find a way back to her.
Whatever the case was he believed that they were true love, so much to the point that he tried true loves kiss on her after seeing her. Probably not aware that on this show the cliche for 3 seasons now is TLK will not work when memory loss is present.

I think they couldn’t send Regina, because she’s not allowed to be near Henry. That was the price she had to pay due to the Curse, and her going to knock on their door would violate that and who knows what could happen. I also wonder if that might have something to do with WW recreating SB, if she wants to screw with Regina, having her so close and yet so far from Henry would drive her insane, and we do see her throwing something in the promo, so she’s getting angry about something or other.
I think they couldn’t send Neal because of two potential reasons. 1) Now that Emma has no memories of having met him again, she may well be back to being really angry at him for having left her, and if their reunion went like their Manhattan reunion did, he’d have just got the door slammed in his face and she wouldn’t want to listen to him, so it’s useless to send him. 2) In the promo, he could be the one on the gurney and is who Hook is referring to when he says her family is in trouble, (relationship or not, Neal qualifies as Emma’s family because of Henry).
I think they couldn’t send Snow because she may well be heavily pregnant by now, because it’s been a year, and it’d mean they wouldn’t have to keep trying to constantly hide Ginny’s rapidly expanding bump.
I think Charming didn’t go because 1) if Snow’s heavily pregnant he’s not gonna leave her and/or 2) He’s probably the one in charge of everyone, so has stuff to do.
Also, Snow and Charming are both Emma’s family too, so they may be in some situation that prevented them from going if her family is in trouble.
So I actually think that Hook is a believable choice for the person who went to find her if it was a situation where they all decided that someone needed to go and bring Emma back.
I think Hook left from a reinstated SB, not FTL, to go to NYC. He’s wearing the red vest and the hook in the FTL stuff, and in NYC he’s in all black with the fake hand. We don’t see enough of him in the hospital scene to tell what he’s wearing, but my money is on it being all black. If the flashbacks for the rest of this season will potentially be showing the intervening year in FTL, I think that’s why Hook’s in the red vest for that stuff. All the other characters look drastically different and the vest is really the only point of difference they could do for Hook’s costume. So I think that him being in all black in NYC means that he came from SB, after the hospital scene. Does he even have a fake hand with him in FTL, or is that just a thing he got in SB? Doesn’t seem like a thing he’d have bothered having at all in his pre-SB days.
January 4, 2014 at 1:25 am #235090RumplesGirlKeymasterI agree with something Phee wrote: I don’t think he is coming from FTL. I think he’s coming from SB, and most likely took his cloaked ship into NYC like he did once before.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"January 4, 2014 at 1:32 am #235092sweetgrassParticipantI think there are several possibilities:
1. Hook figures out how to get to our land and therefore he goes. He loves Emma and isn’t going to stop trying to get to her.
2. Both Neal and hook come to our land but split up and Hook is the one to find her. Since Henry is Neal’s son, I feel that he has a strong motive to find them. I ship CS but respect Neal’s role as a father. Neal does want to do right by his son.
3. Neal is stuck in the EF for some reason which could be Rumple related or related to the hospital scene or due to blood magic he is the only one that can do something in EF.
4. Hook might be a double agent.
i think it is 1.
Keeper of Hook and Emma's smoldering first kiss, a certain Pirate's sauciness, the Evil Queen's snarkiness, Grumpy's gruffness and a drop of true love to make it all go down smooth.

Oh the idea of blood magic is interesting. Maybe he has to stay behind because he somehow gets wind of where Rumple is? (and Belle goes with…) except in the promo Belle is in SB at the town hall meeting.
Hm. (sorry that was a bit rambley)
Yeah I think it’s a combo of #1 and #2 and Hook just being a more logical choice.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"January 4, 2014 at 1:52 am #235095kfchimeraParticipantI like the idea Hook’s coming from SB on the magic ship, and some reverse curse thing already happened.
I don’t think for a second Hook would willingly work for WWW as Hook’s goal is to get Emma to love him. He can’t do that with tricks or magic, so I don’t see him partnering up as he did with Cora. Revenge is a different thing than love, and he has expressed a desire to be more honorable and circumspect to really impress Emma.
The WWW could trick Hook though, make him think she’s just a concerned ….someone…who is “invested in their future” (pull a page from Rumple’s book maybe?) and say she wants to help Hook find Emma, that if he doesn’t, her family would be in trouble (to make sure he feels some urgency to it so as not to question her story), and that he has to bring Emma somewhere. Then (Admiral Ackbar voice…) IT’S A TRAP….but it’s not like Hook knew about it.
As for why not anyone else, well, there could be lots of reasons. We just don’t have enough context to do more than wild guesses at a dart board. (Graham can throw mine).

January 4, 2014 at 1:57 am #235096sweetgrassParticipantTo be clear, when I postulated that Hook might be a double agent, I meant that he is working as a spy for the Charmings against the WW.
