I feel like while there should definitely be a gay male relationship, that doesn’t really help me with my problem of not feeling represented in the show. There is a sizeable queer female following of OUAT whereas I don’t think there is as much of a queer male one, so they should try and have something for that part of the fanbase first.
I have to disagree here, OUAT has yet to present a male/male relationship at all, whereas at least they have shown Mulan/Aurora. I’m not a queer woman, but I too feel slightly misrepresented since I’m black. Every black character we’ve had has either been unimportant, evil, gone missing from the show, dead, or all of the above. But that doesn’t mean just because the black viewers of OUAT may be minimal than other races, that we shouldn’t get shown more often either so that they can have something for the others. Besides, shouldn’t showing great portrayal of a queer couple in general be a good thing for ALL members of the LGBT community?

I know that they can’t do Narnia because of rights, but is it possible to introduce say “The Queen of Winter” which would have the Narnia-feel to it, without being Jadis?
The problem with having a new character is that it makes the whole thing feel like “The Queers are coming”. It makes the idea of the gay paring feel like something that doesn’t quite belong, it’s new, it’s not old OUAT, etc. whereas if you root it in an existing character it makes it feel more grounded somehow. having new characters come in as love interests does happen, as we’ve seen. But introducing a new couple of the show? It can be a harder sell sometimes. as much as I loved Ariel, ArielxEric wasn’t a ship people got behind or anything.
They need to root it in an existing character to make it feels like it belongs.
(That said I did like the idea of Glinda X Zelena too, and still hope it’s a possibility if she’s not truly dead somehow).
that’s a really good point and I something I hadn’t considered. I just don’t want them to do something like “well, we were going to make Red and Elsa but Meghan got swamped on other projects so we shelved the entire thing.” Because while I do like the idea of #ReditGo, if it has to be another paring (say scheduling issues) then I’d prefer they do *something* rather than just give up the notion entirely.

Isn’t hard to judge what size following there is for each, though? I mean unless you have hard statistical data, there’s no way to know which group is larger. And what about the gay man who is watching the show and has the same issue as you; “I’m not being represented.”
I guess my point is, is it more important to have one before the other (based on what some might judge size of representation) OR to finally have a same-sex relationship."He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"May 16, 2014 at 5:56 pm #270199Crystal PrincessParticipantI feel like while there should definitely be a gay male relationship, that doesn’t really help me with my problem of not feeling represented in the show. OUAT has a serious race problem and it’s difficult to discuss it in the fandom.
I’m not dismissing the idea of a male gay romance at all – it’s just the most demand out there ATM is for a queer female relationship and I feel that should be answered to. Of course – there should be queer male ships too. But this is a show where the ladies are a little more prominent.

"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"May 17, 2014 at 8:49 am #270255PriceofMagicParticipantI would be very interested to see the characters reactions to an LGBT relationship on the show. Not everyone would be accepting of it and that’s a storyline they could explore on the show, overcoming prejudice.
Emma would be totally fine with it, as would Henry and probably all the characters that had a cursed personality. Although I think it would be interesting if Charming or Snow weren’t so accepting of it to begin with, they’d get over it, but it would give them a bit of depth and show them as not “practically perfect in every way” characters.
Hook might not be accepting of it, not because he would be homophobic, but because he would come from a time when it wasn’t a recognised thing, although theoretically he may have travelled enough to have seen all sort of relationships. Without a cursed personality, Hook’s attitudes towards certain things maybe be a little old-fashioned. Same with older characters like Granny. Values dissonance would be at play but again they could show that character overcoming their prejudice.

I think this depends on the attitudes in the EF over THEIR history with homosexuality, not our history, though. The EF and our world aren’t the same. For all we know, the EF is super tolerant and has been 100% gay friendly for thousands of years.

His spent a lot of time on the open sea with tons of sea men, I wouldn’t be surprised if he reveals he had a few flings at one point.i don’t see Hook as being the character wouldn’t be tolerant of it lol. I think Rumpel or Snow and Charming, yes

I’m not sure why Snow or Charming would have an issue. I get that they come across as the family oriented dull-ish couple of the show, but that doesn’t mean they’d be homophobic. I know many family oriented people who are also dull and not homophobic. And, to be fair to Snow and Charming, they’re the couple that believes in love above all else. I honestly don’t think they’d take issue with a non-heterosexual pairing.
Same with Rumple. Rumple is so flamboyant (Dark One Rumple especially) at times, I’ve often wondered if Bobby is playing him as bisexual."He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love" -
