I have mixed feelings, because I could see potential in the idea of a series. Maybe something built around the search for the Hatter’s lost wife, with him traveling through many realms, happening contemporaneously with the events in SB/OUAT timeline.
While Stan was great in the role, the switch to a new actor could be even part of the storyline. Either the hatter transforms his body somehow or is altered in some way, or the hat is literally passed to someone else who becomes the Hatter (and so the lost wife storyline might not really work then) but there’s an explanation beyond the original actor couldn’t continue.

SOUNDS LIKE THEY WOULD BE DOING DOCTOR WHO not Mad Hatter… Just saying…. I like Stan in the part and ONLY STAN !!! Maybe a little more coinage thrown his way would work wonders….. Just saying

I was skeptical about this, but fans have brought up two actors who actually have the potential to play the role well. I believe Andrew-Lee Potts, who has actually played the Hatter before in a mini series, was brought up here. Also suggested around the web is Seth Gabel. Both actually have somewhat of a resemblance to Sebastian Stan, and who knows maybe one of them can play the role well in their own way. Both actors also appear to have a much more free schedule for such a commitment compared to Stan.

Here are photos of the two actors, one with Andrew in Mad Hatter attire from “Hatter”:

Either Sebastian Stan, or they better just create a Mad Hatter completely irellivant to Once Upon a Time. That’s my take.

I think if they do a spin off, it should be completely separate from Once Upon a Time. If ABC did that, Sebastian Stan would not have to leave the show (even though he is not a regular).

But I was talking to one of my friends today and told her about and said, I don’t see how this could become a series. I’m sure the writers could probably surprise us but the concept of a Mad Hatter series by itself, feels like it should be done as web episodes than a TV series.

I was posting a bit about this in a spoiler thread, but it’s not actually spoilerish, so…

I could see them sucking the Once watchers in by making Jefferson’s wife a main character in the spinoff. Show their whole history, how they met, maybe even worked together, show Grace being born. Then maybe for the season 1 finale, finally get around to showing what happened to her. That’s a storyline that we’ve all been dying to see since we first met him. It’s a major question we want answered. So if they hold that ransom for the spinoff, it’d be a good tactic to try and suck us in. Gotta say, it’d probably work on me, even though right now I’m not a fan of the spinoff idea.

The thing with that scenario, I could easily see that being a back story episode on Once. Not really an entire series.

Oh I agree, it’d fit perfectly on Once. I’m just saying, if they want a drawcard to get the Once watchers watching the spinoff too, (which they need to do if the new show has any hope of being a success), that would be a way they could go about it, by making the spinoff plot about something we’ve all already been dying to see on Once.

I have to wonder if ABC and H and K are tracking what people are saying about this potential spin off on Twitter and Tumblr. There doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of positive reaction to it right now.

I’m sure they have people watching people’s reactions. I remember when NBC did the horrible Wonder Woman pilot, there was so much backlash over the script and the costume, NBC decided not to pick up the pilot after it had been filmed.
