It’s not quite clear if this spinoff will literally be its own thing entirely not connected to Once. I hope it is at least the same Wonderland from Once.
It would feel a bit random if it was set in a completely different Wonderland to the one we’ve already seen. I’d like it to be the same, and I’d like it if one day we get an Alice on Once who is a younger version of the Alice in this new show. They could still keep the spin-off as its own entity, but have connections like that to Once.

Agreed. Making it a completely different Wonderland not set in the Once universe would kinda defeat the purpose of a spinoff, especially since Adam & Eddy are running the show. Both them and ABC would want Once’s audience to crossover by using the same established universe.

ABC is casting three characters for the Once Upon a Time Wonderland Spinoff: Alice, Amahl, and the Knave.
Alice: “a British twentysomething, is young but has already had a hard life and carries some emotional scars. Though she tries to hide it, she has a generous heart”.
Amahl: ” who is Middle Eastern, attractive and soulful. Though he’s optimistic, which gives him a Zen dreaminess, he has an inner fire”.
The Knave: “who is a loner and a heartbreaker. This man of action is loyal and possesses a strong moral center, despite his swagger”.

March 20, 2013 at 12:09 pm #181101kranenParticipantMore details have emerged regarding Once Upon a Time’s Wonderland spinoff show.
The project was originally intended to focus on Once’s Mad Hatter, played by Sebastian Stan, but the pitch has now been altered due to Stan’s unavailability.
Once Upon a Time creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz have recruited Prison Break’s Zack Estrin to help them develop the spinoff, which will now focus on the character of Alice.
Kitsis, Horowitz, Estrin and Once and Buffy the Vampire Slayer writer Jane Espenson are currently writing a pilot presentation to pitch to ABC, Deadline reports.
The ‘test’ pilot will shoot immediately following the season two wrap on Once Upon a Time on April 7.
If picked up to series, each season of the Wonderland spinoff will likely run to 13 episodes, airing in the gaps between Once Upon a Time seasons on ABC.
Estrin would run the potential series, while Espenson is expected to return to work on the parent show alongside showrunners Horowitz and Kitsis.

March 20, 2013 at 8:10 pm #181197MatthewPaulModeratorI have a hunch that this will mean that the winter hiatus for Season 3 will be much longer, but there’s honestly a good reason. Not only would the award shows, NFC championship game and the SuperBowl be in direct competition, but the Winter Olympics are airing that February too. For the sake of not risking a loss in viewership, which we are still suffering from this Season thanks to ABC placing Once against that major competition, it might be best for ABC to hold off on the 2nd half of Season 3 a little while longer. The other benefit from one longer hiatus would mean little to no other breaks for the remainder of the Season.

Great point. So in my head this means that the first half of the season’s finale will have to EPIC to make sure viewers come back.
As to the “spin off” which I’m not sure we should be calling a spin off, I’m excited to see what it will do. I hope at some point Sebastian Stan will come back to both shows.
