“English-born Australian actress Sophie Lowe has landed the lead in ABC‘s Once Upon A Time spinoff project, which now has a title, Once: Wonderland. Also cast in the presentation, from Once Upon A Time creators Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz is Brit Peter Gadiot.

Once: Wonderland is set in pre-curse Wonderland. The story is told through the point of view of Alice (Lowe) who has a generous heart but carries the scars of a long hard life. She is joined by two other characters, Cyrus (Gadiot), Alice’s love interest with a background shrouded in mystery, and the Knave of Hearts (Michael Socha), a sardonic adventurer, a man of action, a loner and a heart-breaker.

Kitsis and Horowitz are writing the 15-20-page, four-scene presentation with input from Zack Estrin and Jane Espenson. Production is slated to begin April 7 in Vancouver, immediately following the season wrap of Once there. If the project goes to series, Estrin is expected to run it with Kitsis and Horowitz, while Espenson, who has been a key member of Once’s writing staff since after the pilot, will likely return to the flagship drama, which Kitsis and Horowitz will continue to run. Also executive producing the ABC Studios-produced spinoff is Once Upon A Time executive producer Steve Pearlman. Lowe is with CAA and Australia’s Shanahan Management “.

I don’t think they will have the same people like Cora and the Mad Hatter on it but I could be wrong. I never did like like the story of Alice in Wonderland and this looks dumb to me but that is just my opinion 🙄

I have come to the realization that there will be more and more links to this new show …. I also realize I will not be able to keep up with all of them… so I probably will not be posting them as I only have 24 hours in the day and work is getting more demanding. Anyone else wants to post links on a regular basis please do so…. I am going to only post for OUAT in my link list.

I am hoping someone will take over this link list.

I just came up with a nice shortcut way referencing the spinoff: OW [pronounced like “ow!”]

    OW… 😆

I’m intrigued by this, but any Once Wonderland series is going to seriously lack something for me without Sebastian Stan. 😐 But I would rather him be on Once: Original anyway. 😀

More spin-off news: the name changed again – it’s ‘Once Upon a Time in Wonderland’ now – and they just cast Emma Rigby as the Red Queen:

I had to laugh at how Deadline described the character, though. They’re clearly ignorant of the book’s story to describe her as a playing card – she’s a chess queen, the playing card is the Queen of Hearts – and calling her Iracebeth, a name Tim Burton coined for his Alice in Wonderland movie and that was never present in the original story. 🙄

Sloppy article! It is interesting though it says April 7th is when filming will begin on this new show.

“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?” -- Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass

That means casting has 3 more days to fill needed roles.

you know, I just realized that there are two threads about the spin off. This thread and another one in General topics.

The role of the Red Queen has been cast.
