Now that we’ve all had some time to digest S5 (A and B) and have a better understanding of where S6 is going….what are some of your hopes for S6?
[adrotate group="5"]"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"May 20, 2016 at 9:13 am #324249RumplesGirlKeymaster1) The various romantic storylines are pushed to the background and replaced with dynamics between family/friends.
2) Snow stops being such a fussy busybody and let’s her inner bandit out.
3) Hook has less scenes with Emma and more scenes with other characters. For me, he’s far more enjoyable and even entertaining when he’s not being asked to make moon eyes at Ms Swan.
4) The EQ and Regina reintegrate, after realizing that both halves make up the full person.
5) Less Magical MacGuffins; actually just less *plot* in general. More characters, less plot.
6) The Rumbelle/Rumple storyline is wrapped up once and for all, no matter how it plays out.
7) The reason behind Jekyll creating Hyde (or vice versa) has nothing to do with a woman, father issues, or being poor.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"May 20, 2016 at 9:38 am #324251thedarkonedearieParticipantHopes for season 6:
– The Rumbelle story line gets resolved. But I hope it’s cool how they do it. Please don’t make it a lame macguffin. There are many possibilities here. They kept whatever Hyde said a secret so they either don’t know yet, or they have a fun trick up their sleeve to show us new characters or a new world (or Rumple is going to split himself like Regina did).
– More bandit Snow. No more Mary Margaret please. Follow through on this.
– I agree with RG. More Hook with other characters other than Rumple and Emma. I’m sick of Hook “getting his revenge” on Rumple, and I’m sick of Hook’s flatness when it comes to being with Emma 24/7.
– While I do like the idea of seeing these characters with untold stories, I still would like a bigger villain to surface halfway through.
– Focus on the core group of characters more with less plot. I’m hoping since this takes place mostly in storybrooke allegedly, we’ll get less trapped in another realm and more about the heart of the show.
– I want to see Maleficent and Lily again. And I want them to be connected to Violet.
– More Violet and Henry.
– Let us in on what Hyde’s motivations actually are. You may think, well of course their going to let us know eventually…and yet we never really understood Hades.
– More Zeus. You don’t just introduce a God like that who basically is playing God and bringing people back to life and then only use him for 5 seconds.
– I would like to see the return of Merlin somehow but I know that’s not happening.
– I would like to see Mulan get her happy ending. And I would like a her to be integrated in the plot again and get a backstory.
– I want Lion King, Aladdin and Jasmine, Jafar, Mary Poppins. Not going to happen, but I want it.
– I would like to know why storybrooke looks the way it does. I thought we were going to get that answer from Hades, but all we know is that he made the UW look like storybrooke.
– Rumple’s mother! Maybe she’s Mary Poppins….
– I want to see everyone getting their selves split so we can see their dark selves run havoc. I hope it’s not just the Evil Queen.
And I’m sure many many more……
May 20, 2016 at 11:03 am #324257PriceofMagicParticipant1)I’d rather the plot be more character focussed, instead of the characters being plot focussed.
2) Hook in scenes with other male characters who aren’t Rumple, also less scenes with Emma.
Hook’s whole “revenge” storyline is dragging on beyond the most logical point. Nobody is saying Hook and Rumple have to like each other but staying out of each other’s way or having to be reluctant allies would be more natural at this stage than Hook constantly wanting revenge. Hook has moved on from Milah therefore the “revenge” plot should have been resolved. Hook’s done a lot of things against Rumple (and Belle) therefore it should have all equalled out, and Hook should’ve moved on. Having Hook continually antagonising Rumple then crying foul when Rumple retaliates only makes Hook look bad.
Hook is most enjoyable when he is sharing a screen with Charming and Charming alone because Charming doesn’t put up with Hook’s crap and I actually think Hook respects him for that. Charming and Hook also play nicely off each other because they’re personalities are different to each other but they recognise they have the same goals.
3) RumBelle working together and arguing like an old married couple- “Her Handsome hero” was a good episode for them because they were working towards the same goal but disagreeing on how to get there. There is no reason for RumBelle to constantly break up/reunite every season because it gets too repetitive. Have them actually work together and resolve their issues over time instead of constantly pushing Belle off-screen and havng Rumple be evil for no reason than “power”.
4) Have Henry and Violet break up- They’re too young to be having a deep and meaningful relationship but also it wastes screentime when there are other important things going on.
5) Less Henry- Henry was annoying in the finale. He’s the least interesting of the regulars and he becomes very bratty when he get all high and mighty over something. He’s not a little kid anymore so when he throws a temper tantrum, it’s not a case of he’s too young to know any better, because he is old enough to know better and I hope he learns his lesson the hard way by having something backfire on him.
6) Actually give Emma a storyline that doesn’t revolve around Hook in some form or another.
7) Make Storybrooke have that small town charm to it again. Show some of the side characters such as Granny, the dwarves and Whale. Give them some lines. Bring back August.
8) Give Belle friends. Give everyone friends that they can hang around with who aren’t regulars or related in some form.
All magic comes with a price!
Keeper of FelixMay 20, 2016 at 7:50 pm #324273MatthewPaulModerator1) I wouldn’t mind seeing other former villains split with Jekyll’s serum. Not only would it be fun to see the evil versions of the characters back, but it would also be fresh to see these characters directly face off against their worst selves. This could be a viable opportunity for character development, if they get to see just how bad their worst selves are first hand.
2) It would be nice to finally get Aladdin and Jasmine.
3) The explanation for what happened between Will and Anastasia. What if Will lost Anastasia to the Land of Untold Stories?
4) Finally exploring the search for Lily’s father, after being put on hold for an entire Season.
5) For Rumple to finally come to an ultimatum, regarding his love for Belle vs his love for power.
6) I would like more of a balance, in terms of how much screentime and development each of our regulars get. Sidelining some of our regulars has been a long ongoing problem with this show.
7) Better usage of flashbacks. Give us more flashbacks that actually serve a larger purpose. Not only do filler flashbacks take time away from present day story, but they also take time away that could have gone to more important flashbacks. We were robbed of a Hades and Zeus flashback this past Season. So in short, I still want flashbacks to be a part of this show, but only if they’re relevant and make sense for the story arc.
8) Maybe we do need to go back to Season 1’s structure of one arc spanning across the entire Season. I think the Untold Stories storyarc has the potential to last an entire Season.
9) Less usage of Magical MacGuffins. I swear I could create a logline for a typical episode these days by playing MadLibs. “On the next episode of Once Upon a Time, (insert character) must find (insert Magical MacGuffin) in order to (insert reasoning).” It’s like the writers have a plot generator akin to this.
10) Less recycling of previous Once Upon a Time storylines. Self-plagiarism has been a thing on this show for quite some time, but it was especially obvious in Season 5. It felt like we were going in circles. I’m looking at you, Rumple.
May 20, 2016 at 9:44 pm #324274RumplesGirlKeymaster3) The explanation for what happened between Will and Anastasia. What if Will lost Anastasia to the Land of Untold Stories?
We could always see a blonde from the back, in a red dress and over hear “Dahhhhhling” if they couldn’t get the actress back. It’d be nice to finally get some sort of answer.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"May 20, 2016 at 10:35 pm #324275nevermoreParticipant1) Less focus on romance, especially of the Suddenly!True Love variety. Instead, more focus on both the existing relationships, including marital and family ties, and friendships that last longer than five minutes.
2) I would love to see OUAT get back to the “twisty” approach to well-known stories, but in a way that isn’t just facile “oh, this was a good guy — lets make him a villain” like they did with Arthur. Related – no more Hamburger Helper villains, and I think this would necessitate no more season split.
3) Less world-building inconsistencies. The biggest one is that OUAT needs to decide what its magic system is, and stick with it.
4) Rumple’s character development actually goes somewhere. No more endless repetition of the same internal and external conflict with no progress or resolution. Rumbelle resolves — however it does — and the pointless and never-ending on again off again cycle stops once and for all.
5) Emma’s character isn’t reset to zero. I am so not interested in her WallsTM, or how Hook plans to break them yet again.
6) No more Once Upon a Hook
7) It doesn’t turn out that one can actually kill one’s worst aspect made flesh and somehow emerge white and fluffy as a result.
8) Less plot, less “quests,” less dollar store MacGuffins. Less superlatives and hyperboles along the lines of the mushroomiest mushroom in the history of all evil mushrooms, or whatever that whole Crimson Crown thing was.
9) Henry stops being written as an 8 year old.
10) Less flashbacks and pointless realm jumping. Actually develop SB again.
May 21, 2016 at 12:44 am #324277sciencevsmagicParticipant– Early on in S6, I would like a full episode of Jekyll and Hyde that clearly explains the reason for the split and also Hyde’s motivations.
– Thoughtful exploration of the darkness and light that is always present in everyone and also how to integrate the two. I’d like to see this wrapped up with Regina reabsorbing her EQ self and becoming a more complete person.
– From the The Land of Untold Stories, I’d like to see Aladdin (perhaps as an acquaintance of Sidney Glass) and Sindbad (would be cool if he had a history with Hook).
– Belle being awoken in a way that makes sense.
– A character driven story arc focussed on internal conflict and relationship dynamics.
– More of Storybrooke and its quirky population.
– Grumpy and Nova getting together. Why on earth has this not happened yet?!! It’s a loose end that’s bugged me since S1.
– The return of Ruby, Dorothy and Mulan for multiple episodes.
– Far, far less of CS.
– No more pointless flashbacks.
– No sleeping curses, macguffins, amnesia, or true love’s kisses.
– If there is any portal jumping, let it be deliberate, not accidental and unexplained. Snow still has the silver slippers! If she’d just kept them with her, all their shenanigans in the finale could have been avoided.
– No storylines driven solely by stupidity.
– No Henry centred episodes. His narrative function is to keep the clan together, to keep the adults believing in magic and goodness and each other. But make him the centre of attention and he can get very annoying very quickly.
– No more Violet Believer or Floral Believer or whatever it is that Henry and Violet are called. They’re as bland as an unseasoned pork chop and their relationship serves no purpose in the story. They’ve done nothing to earn their screentime. This is an issue on a show where the huge cast of characters are constantly competing for screentime. I recall Adam saying that the LGBT relationship had to be ‘earned’. Presumably, that’s why they waited nearly five whole seasons before giving us a half baked one in a single episode. Yet Henry and Violet have been given scene after scene throughout S5. Theirs isn’t the only relationship given preferential treatment (not by far); I’m simply using them as a very recent and obvious example. It’s beyond frustrating for minorities to see this blatant favouritism with regards to representation.
– After my rant above, it seems pertinent to mention that I’d like OUAT to increase the diversity of both its characters and their relationships.
– Finally, I’d like the writers to sacrifice the pace of the plot for more depth. This means more character focus, seeing characters process events, seeing characters deal with the consequences of their mistakes. It would be nice to see themes like good/evil, light/darkness, true love etc explored in a meaningful and mature way. If/when a macguffin does get whipped out, there needs to be a proper explanation given about how fits into the universe OUAT has created.
May 21, 2016 at 1:11 am #324279TheWatcherParticipant– That its the final season.
– That all unanswered questions are now addressed and answered questions.
– That Emma be more proactive and less whiny as she has been lately.
– Less romantic drama. For all the couples.
– That Regina not become a Woobie.– That we do see some of the characters we haven’t seen (Tiana, Aladdin, Jasmine, Pochantas) but only if they are actually relevant to the plot and don’t feel like A&E are just checking off a list of characters to get them out of the way.
– Henry being given more storylines. And Henry learning/using magic or battling. C’mon guys its in his blood.

(This would be enough for me actually.)
–Rumbelle finally getting the story the actors, characters, and fans deserve–something worthy of the actors’ talents and the fans’ hopes. I’m hoping for a beautiful, at least bittersweet ending if not happy outright.
–Character-driven storylines that are consistent in their worldbuilding. (This is wishful thinking.)
–Henry being front-and-center.
–Henry and Grandpa Stiltskin developing their relationship.
–Belle’s relationships actually being acknowledged and relevant.
–Forgotten characters whose stories weren’t really wrapped up getting the chance to do so.
–Robin and the Lost Souls being given one more chance.
–Dopey being rescued from Treedom.
–Everyone, but especially Belle, getting to dress up in steampunky outfits and ride an airship.
–And, somewhere in dreamland, Neal coming back by the same random whims Hook was able to, so he can finally be with his family as he always should have been.
