So…let’s take a vote.
Rumbelle…dead or not?
Can Rumple REALLY come back from this? Can he re-write his story? Can he get Belle back? What is his plan now?
And one more time for the cheap seats in the back….what in the name of sanity was his actual plan??

Trying to recapture some of the dynamic that worked for him before.
But poor Belle. And nobody comforting her. Again.

And he was so scared.
But she saw him hurting people again. She had to stop it. Because she’s a hero. And for all the talk of the villains never getting happy endings…we haven’t seen the heroes get them either. Their friends, maybe. Emma and the Charmings? Their lives and families are constantly in danger. Oh, and Neal? Dead. Belle? Forced to hurt the person she loves most, send him away from her “forever” (we know he will come back, but she doesn’t believe it’s possible), and watch him suffering afraid on the other side of the line.
…it sucks to be a hero, even when you have to.

December 14, 2014 at 9:35 pm #293199WickedRegalParticipantRumbelle…I’m very very very very nervous for this pairing!!!!
That scene felt like a final goodbye, and the way Rumple’s character seems to be setting up to be 4B Big Bad, and we all know what happens to the Big Bads in the end….and with the pregnancy rumors, which could be Belle if they go that route. I’m worried they’ll either kill him off a big bad, or redeem him in the end like they did Ingrid with some excuse about “all he wanted was to be reunited with his son, and in death/sacrifice he can be.” Those are my biggest concerns.
But hopefully Rumple will learn his lesson, and really work for redemption again, win back Belle, and somehow get his happy ending.

December 15, 2014 at 12:15 am #293230darkones1fanParticipantIt could come back…But Rumple’s going to have to do something REALLY REALL REALLY Selfless again and I’m talking BIG STAKES!Chernabog Style stakes maybe 🙂
But I fear Rumple kind of unhinged as of now.
December 15, 2014 at 1:09 am #293239KebParticipantRegina was a big bad once upon a time. Unlike Rumple, she hasn’t even died once.
Rumbelle will return. I believe that they both still love each other, desperately, and that if Belle has proof that Rumple is choosing her over power she will take him back. She told him exactly that: She wanted to be chosen.
I’ve got some theories over how they could play out the new dynamic…but suffice it to say, I want Belle to be the hero who isn’t getting her happy ending and wants to help Regina & Henry & Emma bring EVERYONE the happy endings, and Rumple to be desperate to win back Belle whatever it takes to the point where he finally, once and for all, has to choose her. But I’m afraid that point won’t come until the very end of the series, because his power and complexity as a villain seriously drive the overall show.

December 15, 2014 at 2:18 am #293245SlurpeezParticipantBelle absolutely had to do what she did to save everyone. Can you imagine an all powerful dark one without accountability? As terrible a personal sacrifice it was for Belle, I was actually mightily impressed with her inner strength. Finally, she stood up for herself! She wasn’t just an enabler of Rumple’s addiction to power. While I didn’t love that Rumple drove her to that point, she was adamant in sticking up for herself and for the rest of the town. She was a true hero, even though it was so painful, but she knew she had to do it. Rumple was both a threat to the town, to her, and even to himself, because unlimited magic without any sort of price would be disastrous for them. Unlimited power would’ve absolutely corrupted Rumple to the point of no return, and he would’ve driven Belle away from him, or else, held her against her will.
Do I think Rumple can come back from this? Do I think Belle will ever forgive him? I think a lot of things would have to happen before that would ever happen. Namely, Rumple would have to choose Belle over power, by which I let her kiss break his dark one’s curse once and for all. So far, the reason Belle’s kiss hasn’t yet freed him from his curse is because he doesn’t want to lose his magic. Power is his true love, as Belle said. But how Rumple would choose Belle while currently headed down this dark path would take a miracle.
As for what Rumple was actually planning to do in NYC if he’d actually succeeded in being free of the dagger while keeping his power, I haven’t a blessed clue. As we saw, he still ended up in NYC on a bus. We know that is where Neal’s apartment was so maybe Rumple is living there? What Rumple is doing there now, I’m not sure. What he was planning originally may have changed, but it seemed like Ursula was (bizarrely) working there at an aquarium. (How did she get there?) So now it seems like he will team up with her to find Cruella and Mal, and then track down the author.

Is there hope for Rumbelle? Maybe, if he actually changes. But judging by the end of the ep, six weeks have passed and he hasn’t been inspired to do a whole lot of changing yet, as if Belle’s heartbreak at the town line hasn’t had a lasting impact, he’s still just gonna power ahead with getting his happy ending any which way he can.
I hope Belle keeps treating him like she did at the town line, unless and until he can actually make a change and prove himself worthy of her love.
December 15, 2014 at 2:01 pm #293328PriceofMagicParticipantI think there is hope for RumBelle. At the minute Rumple believes he’s lost Belle forever so he’s clinging to the one thing he has left: his power. Rumple is probably going to get a lot darker before he gets better but he’s going to come to a realisation eventually that power won’t make him happy and he will end up spending eternity alone if he continues like the way he is.
Rumple is an addict, and you can’t help an addict unless they genuinely want to be helped. Rumple hasn’t yet reached that point of self-realisation. He’s at the stage where he thought he could have it all, now his magic is the only thing left so he’s going to hit it harder to block out the pain of losing Belle. Just when he’s about to drop off that precipice into absolute villainy, he’ll see Belle again and realise that whatever his plan is would hurt her too and then he can’t bring himself to go through with it. Belle would see that Rumple did choose her over power and Rumple will ask her for help with overcoming his addiction. Rumple and Belle would then work together, and although Rumple may have a couple of lapses, their relationship begins to heal itself.
That’s my hope and I’m sticking to it.
All magic comes with a price!
