A thought I ended up landing on after a bit of a rambling post in another thread, regarding Rumple’s line about how she shouldn’t have brought him back. Maybe that was purely the Dark One talking, because when Zelena found Rumple, he HAD been undone, he was mortal, but he wasn’t any good to her that way, so she found a way to bring the Dark One back into Rumple’s body again.
Would the curse have to pass to another individual and then pass back to Rumple?
Maybe she found Rumple in Oz and the dagger with him, but the dagger was blank–no name, yet the power remained.

I was thinking more along the lines of the Dark One having been sent somewhere similar to where the Waith’s collected souls go, (maybe even the same exact place), and Zelena brought it back and it took up residence in Rumple again.

Pretty good theory. The Dark One does control the Wraith. It would make sense that the DO curse came from the same place/resides there naturally.
Rumple: Just exactly what is it you want?
Zelena: What I’m after, Rumple, is something you’ve spent a lifetime seeking. Something that goes against your very nature. Something that I can’t afford to wait that long for. Luckily, I won’t have to.
When we just had the first part of her dialogue from the promo, I’d just figured she was talking about being reunited with family, but “Something that goes against your very nature,” makes me think there’s gotta be more to it.

I think she meant courage, as that is what she ends up with at the end of the episode–a totem of Charming’s courage Rumple was viewed as a coward his whole life so it’s something he has been searching for.
