Magic seems to be an innate talent but still something you have to train at (Zelena was trained by the dark one and without that training, she probably wouldn’t be half of what she was) So I think her power is a mix of natural talent and great education. Making her Rump’s daughter to explain her power just makes stuff too complicated. I think Rump should have stayed with one child as his motivation: Bae. And Gideon is fine too, I guess.
Agree. All the Mills women had the capacity for great magic so it was not surprising that Zelena who wanted adult praise and was a great student was able to harness that innate ability for magic to being very powerful.
I would have liked to see more of Zelena’s story I think they left it undone. I would have liked her to go back to OZ and start building her life there with Robyn. I loved her relationship with Hades and would have liked him to stick around and explore that relationship more instead of killing him off. We could have seen Zelena balancing being a mom and loving someone who may not be the best influence on her child and the problems that come with that. We could have seen her go back to OZ and rebuild her life there. I think her story was left undone and I am sorry to see her go.
Zelena would have just died when Rumpel killed her in the jail and that would have been the end of that for me. I didn’t like any of her plot after that. I didn’t even like her plot before that. She made me laugh, but she didn’t add anything to the story, in my opinion. I wouldn’t have minded them doing more with the Wicked Witch of the West or doing more with a character who was Regina’s half sister, but for me it would just have to be something completely different then what it was.
The half season arcs caused real problems for the show which became full of filler and there was a lot of that in the Zelena arc, so it would just all go for me. It isn’t worth salvaging.
I think Zelena has borderline personality disorder with psychopathic tendencies (like her sister). In real life the two can co-occur.
Wait, here me out.
There are two types of psychopath (I have read):
1) heroes that can make the tough decisions and take on the responsibility for them (for example, doctors and soldiers but not all of these are psychopaths of course)
2) nasty pieces of work that revel in the power they can have over other people. Some are killers, most are not.
We have seen Zelena be a hero in her youth, and achieve that status again when she gave up her magic powers.
Why borderline, which I think is her biggest trait? Because she has a extreme jealous streak, and in the past she would stop at nothing to get her revenge. Some borderlines are killers, some are not. Meanwhile, one of the main causes of this personality disorder (along with the negative side of psychopathy) is emotional neglect and abuse. This leads to low self-esteem, desperation to find love from any source, even if that source is toxic (Hades, Rumple), possessiveness and jealousy when the affections of the target is placed elsewhere.
Nevertheless, unlike psychopaths and narcissists, many (but not all) borderlines can be self-reflective and be motivated to change their mindset and behaviours. We have seen this in Zelena as well.
Keeper of Regina's bravery
