I agree it would be lovely to explain the picture because it’s one of those plot holes that *really* bugs. But I sorta agree with Phee, it’ll never happen.

The amount of wheel symbolism in 3×20 totally calls to mind the “Wheel of Time” series. There was a spinning wheel in the first scene, which Rumple was using to spin straw to gold. There was also the wheel of Snow White’s wheel chair as she was going into labor. There was also the wheel amongst the ruins of Dorothy’s farm house. And there was a circle which Zelena had created to evoke her time turning spell. All that being said, “round and round the circle of time racing towards the finish line.” What does the “Wheel of Time” have to do with anything? Balefire, the power to change one’s past.

I think the past is going to be altered now. The promo for 3×21 shows Emma and Hook falling through the time portal created by the magic from Zelena’s pendant. Emma and Hook are in the past around the time of “Snow Falls” when her parents met. This very much reminded me of “Back to the Future” when Marty had to ensure his parents still fell in love to ensure his own survival. There is also a scene of present Hook punching old Hook on the Jolly Roger, suggesting Hook goes back in time too to his pirating days. I don’t know what will come of all of this, but it’s very interesting. The “Wheel of Time” is indeed spinning and racing towards the finish line.
