So, in this episode we finally saw Zoso, Rumple’s predecessor as the Dark One, make another appearance. Previously, he was only seen back in Season 1, Episode 8 – “Desperate Souls” in the flashback that showed us how Rumple got his powers (61 episodes ago!)
What did you think about seeing Zoso again?
What motives did he have for seeking out the Hat?

I actually think the Malcolm/Rumple thing is the oldest and here’s why. I think at this point in Zoso’s life he’s looking for a way out. He wants to rid himself of the curse. After he fails with the hat, he’s going to start looking for a desperate soul. So I think this is the second oldest.

Agreed. And I’m sticking with my headcanon that Blue created the Dark One’s curse.

I agree. 2nd oldest scene. He still had the dagger. His cloak looked like the one he wore in Desperate Souls. This failed attempt is probably what triggered him wanting to be rid of his curse. I wonder how he & other DOs knew that the hat could free them of the dagger’s dependency.
