Sneaky, indeed! I think she knows something about the nature of the dark ones power that maybe even rumple isn’t fully aware of.

March 17, 2013 at 9:12 am #180435PheeParticipantI’ve wondered for ages if perhaps The Dark One came into being when The Original Power tried to get rid of the darkness in her, so that there would only be good in the world. But her plan backfired and instead the darkness became its own separate being, and ever since, she has had to try and manage it, do battle with it, always searching for a way to be rid of it, which could be why she gave Bae the bean.

That’s a fantastic theory. Yet another reason we need some Blue backstory.

If Zoso wasn’t the first dark one, who was? Where did the power come from?It opens up the oppurtunity for so many stories!
Right that opens up a lot of opportunities. My guess is that the first dark one was someone more important than “Zoso”. Maybe a very specific evil folklore character like Koschei or Mephistopheles. But I think it was original a human who got cursed in some way.
Well, I think we will see one day more about the origin of the dark one, maybe it will be in a Blue Fairy centric episode. She seemded to be the oldest character on the show.
Maybe it’s like Phee theoriezed, that she tried to get rid of the darkness inside her or maybe she fell in love with a human and tried to make him immortal and he became accidental the dark one.“There were thousands and thousands of forms of joy in the world, but that all were essentially one and the same, namely, the joy of being able to love.”
— from the Neverending Story by Michael EndeMarch 17, 2013 at 5:56 pm #180468RumplesGirlKeymasterI had no idea who Koschei was so I went and looked him up on Wikipedia. Sound familiar?
Koschei cannot be killed by conventional means targeting his body. His soul is hidden separate from his body inside a needle, which is in an egg, which is in a duck, which is in a hare, which is in an iron chest (sometimes the chest is crystal and/or gold), which is buried under a green oak tree, which is on the island of Buyan in the ocean. As long as his soul is safe, he cannot die. If the chest is dug up and opened, the hare will bolt away; if it is killed, the duck will emerge and try to fly off. Anyone possessing the egg has Koschei in their power. He begins to weaken, becomes sick, and immediately loses the use of his magic. If the egg is tossed about, he likewise is flung around against his will. If the egg or needle is broken (in some tales, this must be done by specifically breaking it against Koschei’s forehead), Koschei will die.

They replaced the egg thing with a dagger, but this sounds very Dark One like. I like the idea of having some specific evil character as the original Dark One. That could be the end game of the series as a whole, the forces of good (and semi good like Regina and Rumple) battling against some great cosmic evil like the Dark One’s curse.

Perhaps the dagger is a way of containing the power, controlling it to a certain extent, because it is an explosive power. I keep thinking that blue knows something, maybe she knew the first dark one. I keep having this thought, that there is a physical manifestation of the dagger – a person – who was the original dark one, who is forever bound to the dagger, and their power wielded by a desperate soul. Blue’s ex? Haha. This is of course total conjecture, and my imagination running away with me.
I am just really excited to find out more! I’m convinced that Blue knows something, and it’s huge.
March 17, 2013 at 7:14 pm #180486RumplesGirlKeymasterWhich came first, the dagger or the power? Was the dagger made by Blue in order to control and contain the Dark One’s power? Like the theory Phee mentioned, when the Original Power tried to rid herself of darkness, did she use the dagger? Does that make her the first Dark One? Then how did it pass to other people?
Adam and Eddy: if you’re listening, we would really like a Blue backstory.

These are really good questions.
We need more backstory for blue, for sure! she is pretty much the only character, other than rumple, who is tied to a multitude of people, and their fate. There has to be more to her…
the fairies, if not her specifically, have to the the oldest beings in the enchanted forest.
I agree with RumplesGirl – Eddy, Adam, more blue back story!
March 20, 2013 at 4:42 pm #181148faux paxParticipantI saw this theory on Tumblr and I wish I could find the original post because it explained it so much better then i can. Pretty much what it said was that BF fell in love with a man and tried to make him immortal so that he would live as long as she did and whatever she did resulted in him being the first dark one. It would help explain why she was so against Nova and Dreamy being together. She understood how dangerous it was (at least in her mind) for fairy to fall in love.
