But who in their right mind would make a deal with Rumpelstiltskin? He can be just as manipulative as Regina–even more so. Yet there are desperate people who are willing to deal for happiness. We’ve seen Snow White, Prince Charming, Cinderella, and Jiminy all going to Rumpelstiltskin for a solution to their problems, when he was already well-known for being a dark, corrupted, evil person.
For one, Jefferson. We saw in the finale, that the only reason why he released Belle was so that Mr. Gold would find her and seek revenge against Regina. I see Jefferson becoming a very close ally of Mr. Gold’s in season 2. And he’d be a very powerful ally to have. If Mr. Gold discovers that Baelfire isn’t in this world, or better yet, if the town decides to go after Mr. Gold for creating the curse, all he has to do is jump through the magic hat and disappear. Regina was very short-sided when she let Jefferson slip through her fingers, because he’s definiteley someone who you want on your side.
And all of the evil allies that Regina screwed over in Fairytale land would theoretically go over to Mr. Gold’s side. They’re probably just as angry at Regina as Rumpel and the Charmings are.
Mr. Gold has a better chance at gaining allies because Regina has pushed away even her most trusted allies. That’s going to come back to haunt her season 2.

I don’t know. Regina has certainly had her victories.
True. But most of her victories have been against Emma. But those don’t hold much value because Emma didn’t know what was going on. She wasn’t aware of the curse. But I guess successfully casting the curse could count as a major victory for Regina. However, that’s more of an example a victory inside of a victory. Yes, Regina cast the curse, but it was really Rumpel who wanted it and knew the true nature of it. I guess that’s why Regina hasn’t been able to successfully enact revenge against MM yet. The curse wasn’t designed for revenge, it was designed to find someone.
But now that magic has come to Storybrooke, I think Regina’s success rate may go up. 😉

Guys, trust me. This is just another example of the writers having characters doing things that are out of character just so that it could further the plot. The writers needed Rumpel to think that Belle was dead so that they could surprise him in the season finale. The writers do this kind of thing all the time. They’ll have the characters do thing that they normally wouldn’t so that they can push the plot forward. Sad, but true.
I agree. The writers have been doing this all season long. Especially with Emma’s character. Unfortunately, this is only one in a long line of OOC moments on OUAT.
a chipped cupParticipant^True, but Regina’s violent and emotional reaction to everything will probably lead to her downfall. It’s better to have a long term plan. In the moment, Seeing Regina a rage may scare me, but I always know how it’s going to end. Either she’ll mess up, Emma will catch her, she’ll end up unintentionally harming Henry or Mr. Gold will pull a fast one over her.
So, scary? Yes. But effective? No. I can’t truly be afraid of someone who always messes up.

I might need to add to my first theory that bringing magic to Storybrooke has weakened the borders between the different worlds: something that is going to become a huge issue for our world as the season(s) goes by.
^THIS. I’ve been wondering about the strength of the borders between the worlds for quite some time now. A curse as powerful as the Dark Curse would have seriously damaged the lines between our reality and the next. I hope we get more insight into that next season. That might be the “final battle” that Rumpel was talking about. Why would Rumpel want to fight an Apocalyspe immediately after he finds his son? He made the curse so that he could find his son, so why would he attach an Apocalypse onto it? It makes no sense. But I could easily see the bleeding of worlds into one another as the big “final battle” that he referring to. That definitely sounds definitely sounds like an Apocalypse.
Thank God I wasn’t the only thinking this. You’re absolutely right. The main objective of the curse is to find Baelfire. That’s the real reason why the curse was created and put into place. So, if Rumpel’s main objective is to find his son, then why would then turn around and create a magical World War III? Rumpel wants to be reunited with his son so that he can have his “happy ending,” and a big finale battle between good and evil doesn’t sound practical to me.
I think Midnight Dreary and Lil’Red are definitely onto something. In the end, the fight won’t between Rumpel, Regina and The Charmings, it will be between all the different worlds and dimentions. I think that’s the real reason why the writers introduced the concept of different worlds in “Hat Trick.” It was setting us up for what’s come in the future.
a chipped cupParticipantWait, what? Why would people be angry at Emma for taking Henry away from Regina. She’s evil. That’s why they call the EVIL QUEEN. *Sigh*
But as far as who’s in the right and who’s in the wrong, I’ll wait to see their backstory and then give my verdict. I tend to have a more sympathetic outlook on the show’s characters than most. I can forgive just about anything. So, even if Emma didn’t have a solid reason for not telling the father about Henry, I still wouldn’t hold it against her. She was 18 and clearly lost. In the end, she did what she thought was the right thing for her son. I can’t really fault her for that.
The only thing that would disappoint me would be if Henry’s father really was a good guy and yet Emma still pushed him away. That would upset me.

This is an idea I stole from another thread. Sorry, A_Desperate_Soul. But thinking of my theft as a compliment to your brilliant theory. 😀
I call that only those who possess true love in their lives (lovers, children) will be able to use the magic of true love. Regina will ironically be the only one left out.
I second (or third, fourth etc) this but with a twist. I think magic will go to those that have true love including Belle but NOT Mr. Gold. For some reason he won’t have magic return. Maybe it will start within him but then fizzle. I think it would be interesting to see Belle with the ability to use magic. Mr. Gold would have to “show”/teach her. Wouldn’t that be funny to watch. Mr G to Belle “Dearie, could you conjure up xyz with your magic?” Belle to Mr G ” Not today/I don’t think so…”
Besides, it would seem lopsided if Gold had magic and Regina not having magic.I would empty my entire bank account to see this! 😆 I really want this to happen now.
a chipped cupParticipantThanks everyone. Nice to meet you all. 😀
