I am starting to believe Nimue is the second dark one. I still think it was her in the mask that turned Merlin into a tree as this would go along with Arthurian Legend. Perhaps Vortigan was the first dark one and in order to save Merlin Nimue killed Vortigan with the dagger, thus taking on the darkness to save the one she loved (similar to how Emma took on the darkness to save the town.) I think when Merlin says you destroyed her he is speaking to the darkness, hence why he uses the would destroy and not kill. Merlin can’t bring himself to kill the dark one because he still loves Nimue deeply and is also guilt-ridden as he may blame himself for why Nimue became the dark one. This would also help explain why Nimue can’t kill Merlin and instead turns him into a tree. I know this doesn’t make perfect sense with the whole voicemail thing, but I think that may have just been a red herring.

AgleptaParticipantAlso, the same friend who recommended Miss Peregrine to me just recommended “The Magicians.” I may have to give that book a try and it seems like it has good reviews. Has anyone here read it?

AgleptaParticipantI just finished reading “Library of Souls” by Ransom Riggs. It’s the third book in his trilogy, the first is “Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children.” It is a wonderful series and is a mix of fantasy/sci-fi and history. I highly recommend it and it is YA so a pretty quick read. If you do read or have read it I started a thread a little while back about it and RG wrote a really nice and short description of the first book. The only other thing I am reading at the moment is the outlander series (definitely more adult.) I read the first book ages ago, but just watched the TV series and decided to finally get the other books.

AgleptaParticipantYes! I love the first book. An unbelievably strange book that combines myth, fantasy, time travel, pocket universes, and vernacular photography. There are creepy monsters and an entertaining plot, but what really makes this book worth the read are the black and white photos sprinkled throughout. At first, I thought I would find them annoying but it’s amazing how well they work with the narrative, fitting into the story at just the right moments. It was obvious that Riggs spent countless hours hunting down these photos to use, pouring through garage sales and personal collections. The photos are strange (like the cover photo of a girl floating) and are obviously “faked” but that is washed away in the explanation of who the children in the photos are
I really should sit down and read book two. I keep meaning to!
Squeee!! Yay I am so glad to hear you found it as intriguing as I did! I definitely recommend the 2nd and 3d book, it is a very interesting story he has put together and there is so much more to the world of peculiardom! I would love to hear your thoughts if/once you finish the trilogy. I am really excited to see it as a film, but as you point out the old black and white photos work so well with the story I am curious to see if/how they fit them in with the movie.

AgleptaParticipantHmm… if it is about OUAT then this hints at hook, since the two examples listed are both attractive leading male characters. JMo did say in an interview that everything she is doing is because of her love for hook and several people have speculated that her embracing the darkness is her way of preventing his death. If this is in fact for OUAT this would support that theory.

AgleptaParticipantOmg his father is Inigo Montoya?!
Bwhahaha… YES! nailed it. I was thinking the hair made him look a bit three musketeers-ish, but no he definitely looks like someone dressing up as Inigo Montoya.

AgleptaParticipantooh new script tease is out! I think this is from the scene where Henry, Emma and Regina are outside and it looks like they are battling something or doing heavy duty magic… OR maybe the circle is a dreamcatcher?

AgleptaParticipantOkay, just reread my post and this is why I shouldn’t write long responses when it is midnight and I am beat. In short, I think the show is somewhat aware that they present certain issues in a problematic manner, I just think they aren’t fully aware of HOW problematic it is and thus are not too concerned with addressing it.
