ParticipantI think Gideon wants Hook out of town because that will upset Emma, and maybe make her careless and therefore easier to defeat? Captain Nemo stated that they don’t have any set plans for the sub so I guess wherever it is needed. Although Gideon again shows that he is not truly evil because all he really did is send Hook on a journey he could of easily killed him and didn’t.

ParticipantWas it right for Hook to burn those memories?
No of course not, but that is what he was planning on doing from the very start. He can sit there and tell Archie and Nemo that he wants to do the right thing, but in the end he didn’t.
Do you think Emma should be more upset over the murder or keeping secret?
UM, the MURDER of her grandfather! This part of the episode really got under my skin. You have Hook who is going around not wanting to deal with the consequences of his actions (which is classic unchanged Hook) and you have Emma only caring about how this effects HER (which has been Emma for the last couple of seasons) She just assumes that David and Snow are going to automatically forgive him? Guess what Emma, David has feelings too and would have every right to never like Hook again.
How can Hook make amends?
Well, Hook could start being honest. He should go over to David explain what happened and ask for forgiveness. Then he should ask for forgiveness from Emma for keeping such a secret from her and trying to destroy the evidence of it. He can then work incredibly hard for a very long time to try and regain trust and respect from both David and Emma. This is not what is going to happen, but should
Should anyone tell David?
Yes, he has a right to know who killed his father and would want to know. He has the right to decide to forgive or not forgive Hook for doing this. When we don’t tell David, we may take away that pain but we also take away his decisions to forgive

ParticipantI liked the Regina parts of this episode that part a 9/10 the rest 4/10
Liked:
The Regina Hug (that is two great hugs in two episodes that people really needed) I am not a crier and I felt teared up.
The EQ and Robin dynamics, I must say this Robin Hood was so much more engaging, I am almost sad to see them gone because they were so much fun to watch
Loved the enchanted ropes, the smart comments, and just anything that came out of Robin and Evil Queen’s mouth
I was hoping that EQ and Regina would reemerge but I actually really liked how they did this
I loved that Regina now realizes that she loves herself and told the EQ that she should too (almost cried again)
I like that they gave the Evil Queen a happy ending that included Robin Hood, and I am happy that they pointed out again that Regina’s happy ending is Henry, her family, and the town
Mixed:
So Rumple just buried the shears in the cemetery? Why would he do that? Also Rumple has never been this careless with his security as he is this year which I find ridiculous.
The flashback was not really needed nor did it add much to the story although I did like that she realized and was really sad that she hates herself the most.
Emma giving back the engagement ring, although really halfheartedly
Snow being all self righteous and saying that not all people can be redeemed, although they did slide this one back in the end with her saying that love can change the darkest of souls.
Disliked:
The fact that Emma does not care that Hook killed her grandfather just that he was going to burn the memories. Wow, first off does she not give a darn about her own father and his feelings? So basically she was not upset that he murdered an innocent man in cold blood that happened to be her grandfather, she is upset that he was not honest with HER
Hook being given good advice by both Archie and Nemo and not taking either person’s advice, if you don’t want their advise don’t ask for it, he knew what he wanted to do so why go around looking for pity from other people. Look at me, poor Hook I did something in my past which is biting me in the butt and now I don’t want to deal with the consequences (This is the true Hook!)

ParticipantTo me, this was some seriously OOC for Bae.
We are literally debating whether it was more OOC for Bae or more OOC for the Dagger. This is what the show has come to. To be fair, the people who have wielded the dagger — except for Belle — have most been real stinkers. And Belle always makes catastrophic decisions, dagger or no, so she makes for a poor litmus test. Unless I’m misremembering something? I think the only thing that holds fairly tightly is that in-universe magic can “reset” your personality to ignore that you are “inherently evil” (or good, for that matter). This makes sense, it has to with the ideology of the show, which at least says that there is no such thing as “evil born” (whether it is actually consistent on this point is another issue). The questions this begs are: – a. Why did no one ever think of putting Rumple under some sort of memory spell? So many problems would be solved — he’d have no clue he’s the DO, and next thing you know, he’s paying his taxes and volunteering on the school board. -b. Shouldn’t the memory potion have “worn off” once Neal reached the world without magic
Wow that is a good question, maybe it works like a memory stone and he needs to drink more memory tea to remember, just kidding. This would explain why Hook didn’t act like a dark one until he was told he was one.

ParticipantI think there is no doubt that Rumple would have eventually given into the darkness. He resisted at that moment because he wanted his son to think of him as a hero and he wanted to be that hero for him. Rumple only resisted because he didn’t have control of the dagger, that is why he gave it to Bae in the first place, because he knew he couldn’t resist the power.
AKA
ParticipantYou have to remember according to this episode Bae doesn’t remember any of this happening, he wakes up and knows that Rumple had killed Beowulf. He thinks his dad did it because of the influence of the magic and the power of the dagger. Bae thinks his dad gave in and is the monster that Beowulf said he was. Rumple on the other hand already wanted the power he just didn’t resist after this and therefore becomes the monster that hurts everyone. I don’t like what they did but I understand it and can see how it happened. It doesn’t change how I feel about Bae as a character, he is still the brave outstanding boy who was trying to save his father, and Neal was still the forgiving son who found it in himself to forgive his father’s terrible mistake.
AKA
ParticipantI think we all have the capacity to make wrong decisions when under stressful situations especially when you can feel the power of dark magic and have that power readily available. Do I feel that Bae would normally make this decision? Absolutely not, but he is in a situation where he desperately wants his dad to be seen as a hero and not be the town monster. He has been picked on a bullied and now here is someone else who says they are a “hero” who has killed several people and is going to blame it on his father. I don’t think this has anything to do with leaving towns it has to do with a teenage boy who in a moment has too much power in his hand and makes a wrong decision. His father sees this and understands that once Bae felt the power of the dagger it is addicting so he does the only thing he can think of to prevent his son from darkening his heart he makes him forget the power of the dagger.

ParticipantI thought this episode had some really good moments. I give it a 8/10
Liked:
Rumple being a good dad in both the past and present. This is the Rumple I love the most a really caring dad who would do anything to protect his sons even darken his soul and jeopardize how his son perceives him
Regina’s I will always have to pay the price for what she did….what I did. GREAT character moment
Rumple and Blue Fairy’s conversation. Yes Blue it is partially your fault, she is such a powerless useless character
Belle understanding and not blaming Rumple for doing what he did to the blue fairy so that Gideon would not have to darken his soul.
Hook actually saying that he wanted to tell Emma the truth
Mixed:
Bae being influenced by the power of the dagger. I understand what the episode was trying to say which is that anyone can be influenced by dark magic and power, but it just felt so out of character from the Bae that we all know. The only thing that saved this at all was the memory potion which was a good use of it. Rumple used the potion to break the influence of the dagger on Bae.
Rumple trying to use the memory potion on Gideon, instead of reassuring him that he was just a kid who was being manipulated and that it does not make him a coward it makes him a normal scared kid which is okay. Rumple you can’t always and shouldn’t always take the easy way out.
Hook not telling Emma the truth although this felt in character for Hook who always tries to deflect responsibility and take the easy way out.
AKA
ParticipantBae was a brave boy raised by a loving if weak father. Gideon is a weak boy raised by an evil fairy. If Gideon is truly like anyone; he’s like his father, not his late brother.
Agree with this completely
AKA
ParticipantThe incident may have darkened his soul, kind of like killing Cora darkened Snow’s soul. This didn’t change who Snow was she was still a good person. The difference between Rumple, Regina, Hook, and the rest of the villains is that they continued to do things to darken their souls knowing the consequences of their actions. They made a conscious decision to continue their evil ways. Bae on the other hand was not making a conscious decision to be evil he was being influenced by the dagger and once that influence was taken away he was back to being the really good person that we know he is.
