How is Evil Queen alive with a crushed heart? Is she like a shadow of the actual Regina? I like the exploration of the dark and light sides,but not the idea that we can just magic away the parts of ourselves we don’t like. I think a better eventual message would be that we accept ourselves as we are the good and the bad decisions and that we learn from our mistakes so that we can become better people. We grow through our mistakes as well as our triumphs.
[adrotate group="5"]I just rewatched that scene after reading this, because I didn’t think Rumple had any idea that the box would be taken. After rewatching the scene with my husband we both agree that he had no idea the portal was going after Belle. He thought that someone was trying to get the crystal and that is why he grabbed for it. I don’t believe he chose the crystal over Belle because he had no idea she was in danger and he believes he needs the crystal to save her.
I don’t know if he is a good character anymore. I have loved Rumple from the beginning and was even able to rationalize season 4. I think he became very lost after Bae died and has never found the road again. I think he believes Bae died because he did not have power and could not stop it, which is why he is craving power so much in season 4. All he has left is Belle, so if he has all the power no one can take her away from him. I think that was his thought process in Season 4A and when that didn’t work he tried having the author rewrite the story where he and Belle had a happy ending. What is his motivation at the end of season 5? Maybe they want Rumple to just be a one dimensional character whose only motivation is power? I think that is a horrible idea, the greatest strength Once has is taking characters who are supposed to be villains and making them sympathetic. They loose most of the magic when they take multi-dimensional characters and make them flat. I hope they will show Rumple’s motivation but I doubt it. Very disappointed.
Thought the episode was awful. Very few likes and lots of dislikes

Zelena chooses Regina over Hades
The Zelena/Regina moments were nice
Robin’s funeral was very well done, I liked the arrows

PREDICTABLE: The whole episode was Predictable yes Robin is the one who died and yes Hook is the one who was saved. So Once thought it was better to save a pirate who killed who knows how many people and kill a father of two. How is that hopeful?
PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY: No Snow you are not right and Yes Rumple you are, this is all Emma’s fault. She needs to take responsibility for Robin’s death and Belle’s sleeping curse. I guess this makes Hook and Emma the perfect couple because Hook NEVER takes personal responsibility. It is why I dislike his character so much. I hated that Emma forgot that she is the cause of Robin’s death and starts making out with Hook in front of the casket. Poorly done.
Henry: He doesn’t know if Belle is back or not but you know we hope so. What happened to Belle and Henry’s relationship that he suddenly doesn’t care if she is back from the underworld?
Maurice: Pretty sure TLK wouldn’t work anyway because talk about selfish. He isn’t even going to try and save his daughter and grandchild from a burning room? Why,because he doesn’t like her husband?
Rumple: OK Rumple I love you, but how about explaining to Moe why he should wake his daughter up instead of trying to scare him into doing it? Also I hope to heaven above they are not going back to Season 4 Rumple.

Actually liked Hook’s staying behind and Emma letting him stay behind. Dead is dead but I know it won’t stay this way

Regina telling Robin to give the baby to Zalena. Why should he trust his baby girl with Hades and Zalena just on Regina’s suggestion. Bad move on Regina for telling him to and Robin for doing what she said.
OK, so now Emma needs to protect Zalena because she is part of the family. If I am not mistaken she killed Emma’s sons dad. Should not be able to come back from that.
TLK not working for Rumple and Belle. I put this in the mix because I am hopeful that it will work by the end of the season and should be a much bigger moment for the couple.
Disliked:
Emma’s heart being taken out, I don’t think this should be able to happen.
Emma and Hook’s true love test, I don’t know I believe it wouldn’t matter who was in danger Emma would have tried to rescue them.
I don’t know if he does truly believe she loves him. At the end of season 4 she asks him as he lay dying why it wasn’t enough and he stated because I didn’t believe it, who could ever love me (skin deep parallel)This season you have Belle going back and forth wether she wants to make it work or not so why would he all the sudden believe that he is worthy of her love when he has never believed it before.
Maybe Rumple needs to believe that it will work. I think Rumple still may not believe that Belle loves him for him and therefore he doesn’t believe she has true love for him, or maybe Rumple doesn’t believe he is worthy of Belle’s love and therefore true love kiss won’t work. I hope that by the end of this season Rumple will discover that it will work and wakes her up. He just seemed to me like he did not expect it to work but figured he might as well try. Every other time we have seen true love kiss work there was an excess of emotions and an overabundance of the love they felt for each other.
I have a question, If Rumple wakes Belle up with TLK does that necessarily mean he has to give up his darkness? Can’t he give her TLK and just wake her up from her curse while remaining the dark one? Are they saying he is not capable of true love because he is the dark one? Rumple has tried true love’s kiss a couple of times now on Belle with no luck (Season 2 in the hospital and the Lacey episodes) but I always thought that was because Belle did not know who she was and therefore did not share true love with Rumple while having no memories of Belle. At that time it was not even mentioned that if he gave Belle TLK he would no longer be the dark one. The other question would be is the show saying that Belle no longer has true love with Rumple because he is now the dark one again? I did not think true love could come and go like this, either you have true love or you don’t.
