Yes, I’m aware that they change the stories- but they still have to follow some sort of logic! Giving Oz powers wouldn’t make any logical sense to the story. There is a difference between a clever twist and an arbitrary direction. I can’t think of a way that having Oz have real powers would make any sense.
But anyway- I agree, other realms such as Oz are not part of the curse…although I’m not sure how Jefferson got pulled in.
Pinocchio has been conspicuously missing since the pilot. We know Gepetto and Jiminy are in Storybrooke, and we know Pinocchio was around when they were building the wardrobe. His story has been part of the show since the beginning. You really think he just disappeared randomly with no explanation?

angiebelleParticipantThat’s different- those are stand alone episodes and our first introduction to those characters, not a character who has been around for several episodes whom we aren’t sure where he fits but he is connected some how. I’m not saying we won’t see Oz in the future, but if we do- they will introduce us to it properly as they did with Wonderland.
Yes, I know- I could be completely wrong about all of this…but I get the impression the writers are pretty smart and know what they are doing.
angiebelleParticipantYes, but the characters still retain the essence of who they are in the original stories. Snow White may be tougher- but she is still a beautiful young woman who is essentially good. Rumple didn’t have a love interest before- or a back story- but his personality echoes back to his original story.
Even if they did decide to take liberties with the Wizard of Oz story and make Oz young and smart and out of character, I think having August be the Wizard would be silly and wouldn’t fit in with the show at all. I don’t think the writers would pull something out of the blue like that. It just doesn’t make sense that a character who knows that the book is real and knows that he needs to get Emma to believe is actually someone who has no reason to be involved at all at this point.
If August is Pinocchio, he is a Pinocchio who left fairy tale world and grew up in our world so it makes sense that he might wear a leather jacket and ride a motorcycle. He still has some core traits of the character- insisting he doesn’t lie even though he does on occasion and talking about having faith and believing, all very much a part of the Pinocchio story.
angiebelleParticipantI still think Emma would have recognized August if he were Henry’s father. And why would Henry’s father have anything to do with the fairytale world?
angiebelleParticipantWe have heard references to Agrabah where Aladdin lives- the genie who becomes the slave in the mirror and then Sydney in Storybrooke is from Agrabah, but we haven’t seen any of the other characters yet.
angiebelleParticipantI seriously doubt he is the Wizard of Oz…who is an old man from Kansas and not a real wizard at all. He isn’t even too terribly bright. Plus, I don’t think the writers would have August be a completely random out of the blue character from a realm that the show hasn’t even touched on beyond that green door we saw in Hat Trick. If we see Oz at all, I wouldn’t expect it to happen until next season- within it’s own new storyline.
August has to be someone who was close to the royal couple when the curse was enacted…very few characters knew about Emma.
angiebelleParticipantI agree- I absolutely think that was the plan all along- to make Regina look bad.
angiebelleParticipantOk true- maybe it wasn’t through the wardrobe. I just meant that figuratively- some how, they got him into our world before the curse started.
angiebelleParticipantI think the curse has left a void in her heart just as Malificant warned her due to having to sacrifice her father to enact it. She has tried to fill the void by adopting a child- even naming him after her father. She really, truly wants to love Henry, but because of her own upbringing, she doesn’t know how.
