Maybe Gepetto found a loophole and was able to get Pinocchio through the wardrobe too- maybe there was room for 2 children, but only one adult. Gepetto did make the wardrobe after all. There are probably things about it that we haven’t been told.
I would agree that August could be Bae *if* the writers hadn’t stated that centuries had passed since we last saw him. If I didn’t know that, then I would be torn between that theory and the Pinocchio one, especially based on what we know about the next episode. But if centuries have passed, August can’t be Bae unless there is some illogical time warp involved.
I don’t understand why people think he might be Peter Pan, though. Peter Pan’s story hasn’t even been touched on, so to have him show up now would be completely out of the blue. And Neverland is a separate realm- it’s an island you reach by flying second star to the right and straight on till morning in our world. I also think August is too important of a character to be from a story that hasn’t been a part of the show yet.
Shows like this love to drop hints throughout the episodes as to the real answer of a mystery that people don’t always connect initially, but when you go back and look, it becomes obvious. I don’t think the writers would go with something random. Pinocchio missing in Storybrooke, a 7 year old boy finding baby Emma, August constantly insisting that he doesn’t lie even though he told a tall tale saying he saw lemurs in Nepal- those are all subtle blink-and-you-miss-it hints. I will be very surprised if they turn out to be mere coincidences and red herrings.
What are examples of previous times when they did mislead us? I can’t think of any off the top of my head.
[adrotate group="5"]angiebelleParticipantI still think August is a grown up Pinocchio…he’s the only one with a plausible explanation for how he could have escaped the curse with knowledge of Emma and ended up in our world. Every other possibility would have to be a real stretch to make work. I doubt this is a case of them misleading us.
But I’ll tip my figurative hat to you if I’m wrong.

Gepetto could have helped him escape when he built the magic wardrobe in an effort to protect his son. Therefore Pinocchio grew up in our world unaffected by the curse. But since he was connected to the people there- as with Emma- he was able to enter Storybrooke.
They made a point to tell us early on that Gepetto in Storybrooke has no children. I think if Pinocchio existed in Storybrooke as an inanimate object or a child in school, we would have seen him by now.
August knows too much to be a character who was not close to the central characters when the curse was enacted.
August as Bae would require many random twists to make possible…how did he get to our world? How would he know about Emma? What about the fact that the writers said Rumple became the Dark One centuries earlier? I will be very surprised if they go that route….it would require some serious manipulation of events.
angiebelleParticipantIt would be very difficult for August to be Bae if Rumpelstiltskin became the dark one centuries before the curse was enacted as the writers have stated…
The only way it is remotely possible would be if he had been stuck in time for centuries and then grew up and somehow randomly ended up in our world in modern day with knowledge of the curse and Emma being the savior. That just doesn’t sound very plausible to me.
Of all the theories I’ve heard about August, Pinocchio is the only one that makes sense to me. Gepetto built that magic wardrobe- he could have helped his son escape. Then his son grew up in our world with full knowledge of the curse, returning to Storybrooke 28 years later to help Emma believe. It really wouldn’t make sense for August to be a character who wasn’t close to the royal couple when the curse was enacted- he knows too much.
Now, of course, I could be wrong….but I will be disappointed in the writers if they’ve decided to go with an illogical twist.
angiebelleParticipantI don’t think Regina ever told Snow White the full story so Snow White only believes that the queen was jealous of her beauty and has no idea of the real reason.
angiebelleParticipantSeeing how good and kind she once was makes me sad about what she lost when she decided to turn evil.
angiebelleParticipantI’d rather that the Queen of Hearts be unrelated- a pure Wonderland character that Regina has just dealt with in the past. Obviously Jefferson has taken her there before. And it makes total sense that Queen of Hearts would dislike having Regina call herself the Queen. “All ways are my way!” she says in the Alice in Wonderland movie. The two Queens have a history together, but I don’t think they are family.

First off- we have seen no references to any of the Pan characters or stories. I don’t think Pan would even be from Fairytale land itself anyway. Wendy, Michael, and John were from a very specific time and place in our world, and Neverland is like Wonderland- a completely different realm. Not to say we won’t see his story in future episodes, but I think having August turn out to be him would be completely random and out of place.
Pinocchio on the other hand- he was already human when the curse was enacted, so he would be human in Storybrooke and our world. They made a point to tell us way back in Archie’s backstory that Gepetto’s Storybrooke alter ego had no children. Originally, I thought that was just the curse taking away his happily ever after, but now I think it’s because Pinocchio somehow escaped through the wardrobe. Gepetto helped build the wardrobe- perhaps he hid his son there. The newspaper article about Emma as a baby said she was found by a 7 year old boy.
Plus, August knows all about the book (he may have written it) and who Emma is….he has to be an insider. If Pinocchio came to our world at age 7 and grew up, he’d still remember everything. The only people who knew about Emma being the savior were those who worked closely with the royal couple.
As far as August being Rumple’s son, the writers have indicated that Rumple became the Dark One centuries before the curse was enacted, so the only way this would be remotely plausible would be if Bae was somehow stuck frozen in time for many years.
angiebelleParticipantWow…so if *Cora* is the miller’s daughter rather than Regina as I originally thought, that makes Regina….the first born child that Rumpelstiltskin tries to claim in the original story! (In that version of the story, the miller’s daughter agrees to give him her firstborn in exchange for one more room full of spun gold for the king. When the child is born, Rumple says he will call off the deal if she can guess his name. Her servants overhear him chanting his name in the woods and inform her. When she reveals that she knows his name, he gets so angry that he breaks into pieces.)
I did notice in Skin Deep that Rumple and the Queen seemed to have almost an apprentice and master relationship going on, or at least one that existed in the past- like he used to be her teacher but then they had a falling out.
angiebelleParticipantThis curse can’t have been that much fun for Regina either- she has been stuck there for 28 years in limbo without her magic! Her only good deal is that she is in a position of power and gets to watch the others suffer. But obviously, this has not brought her true happiness….she adopted Henry in an attempt to fill the void. I suppose she may have an idea who Emma is, but she hasn’t indicated it. She has only shown she has issues with Henry interacting with a stranger she doesn’t trust. Does she realize that Henry is Snow White’s grandson? Would that bother her or would she just think of that as another way she has taken something from Snow White.
