Yay!! Just what I’ve been wishing for!
[adrotate group="5"]angiebelleParticipantI don’t mean to be nitpicky…. But Anna’s hair doesn’t have the white streak >_>
Actually, if you look closely at the film (unless I’m mistaken- I haven’t watched it recently), Anna’s white streak disappears when she revives at the end of the movie.
July 17, 2014 at 1:43 pm in reply to: EW: Elsa and Anna's Small Screen Adventure (July 17, 2014) #277645angiebelleParticipantI love that A&E have referred to OuaT as fanfic- because that’s exactly what it is and exactly why I love it so much! It’s playing with existing, beloved characters, and putting them into new situations on a professional budget- that’s awesome!
I think having Elizabeth’s character as the original Snow Queen would be perfect because the story of Frozen is completely different from the original Snow Queen story- Elsa, Anna, and Kristoff are unique to the Disney film. So far, all other characters we’ve seen on the show are the classic stories come to life with nods to the Disney versions. Frozen isn’t a version of the Hans Christian Anderson story. It’s vaguely inspired by it, but really, the narrative is completely original to the Disney film. Having another Snow Queen could be a nod to the real story.
And I agree that while I love the character, Olaf does not belong on OuaT. If you’ve noticed, they *always* leave out the magical talking sidekicks (with the exception of Jiminy who was made human). There are no enchanted objects (except an interesting take on Lumiere) and no talking animals (besides the cricket.)
angiebelleParticipantYes! I was in college when 10th Kingdom aired and didn’t have a tv in my room at the time, so I’d watch it in the usually empty study lounge on our hall. I loved it. I recently found the whole series on dvd at Target for only $5 and was really excited. I’d forgotten how campy it was though. I was showing it to my husband- who does watch OuaT with me- and he wasn’t crazy about it, but I still think it’s great fun.
angiebelleParticipantI’m planning to be there so I’ll do my best to do some tweeting. 🙂
angiebelleParticipantI think we both got the conversation mixed up. I wasn’t referring to them not telling everyone they were going to name the baby Neal. You’re right- they didn’t discuss that beforehand. I’m talking about them making the decision to use the name to honor him in the first place. I thought it was lovely and appropriate. You didn’t. Let’s just agree to disagree.
angiebelleParticipantThe Disney film creators really *tried* to make Elsa a villain. The story just didn’t gel for them until they decided she wasn’t going to be one.
Okay, okay, so maybe they are trying to encourage ratings but that doesn’t mean they are lying about being huge fans of the film themselves.
angiebelleParticipantI’m okay with how they handled it. They just don’t have the time to show us everything. This is a big complicated show with so many characters and story threads and sometimes things are just implied. I felt they showed us enough for us to understand. Others disagree. It’s just a matter of interpretation.
angiebelleParticipantWow, I am REALLY in the minority as a Neal/Swanfire fan around here. They had come to know Neal more by this point. You have to imagine they had more conversations than what was shown on screen. They had seen how big of a heart he had and how much he meant to Emma. I think it makes complete sense that they wanted to honor him by naming their son for him. Their baby was saved because of Neal’s actions. The series isn’t likely going to take us all the way into the future to when Henry has a son anyway. I think Emma was touched. I actually think Rumple was a bit too even though he may not admit it.
angiebelleParticipantI’m both excited and curious- the character they showed was clearly modeled after Elsa, but Elsa as we know her is very specific to the Disney film. The original tale is a completely different story. It’s not really the Disney version of The Snow Queen- it’s only *inspired* by The Snow Queen. Will they make Elsa like the Disney character or base her on Anderson’s story in which she is evil? As someone said, Once isn’t about the Disney films usually. It’s about the original stories- they just added a lot of Disney influence.
I don’t think they have an agenda in bringing in Frozen…the writers are just huge fans of the films themselves. Remember, OuaT is really just one big fanfiction!
