You know…maybe I’m warming up to the Frankenstein theory a bit…
If Regina used the magic portals in the hat to pull Dr. Frankenstein out of his world in hopes that he could bring Daniel back to life for her- I could buy that. It would give a reason for such an out of place character to be present. I’m not entirely on board, but at least I found a way that the theory would make sense!
[adrotate group="5"]angiebelleParticipantThe funny thing is that if she had been cursed along with the family, she would have been a baby for 28 years. And if they all really thought about it, the curse separated a lot of loved ones or put conflict between them, so she they still might not have been together.
angiebelleParticipantI can see how the clues makes sense- you could be right. But I’m still not fond of the choice of involving that story. It doesn’t fit the show.
angiebelleParticipantI think Regina truly does not know that part of fairytale land survived and has no idea what happened to Snow and Emma. It works better with the story- makes Regina more vulnerable. (I’m really itching for her to redeem herself in the end.)
angiebelleParticipantI really hope he isn’t completely dead…because that would just be cruel.
angiebelleParticipantI think he is an adult Bae who has somehow met up with and communicated with August. I never did fully accept the concept that August was talking to Henry when he was on the phone last season! It can’t be Rumple if the man is Bae because Rumple still doesn’t know where Bae is.
Maybe fairytale characters out in our world are drawn to each other?
I could also buy the theory that he is a Peter Pan who ended up in our world and grew up- but I like the Bae/Henry’s father theory best.
angiebelleParticipantNice little fairytale characters? Have you actually read any? Fairytales are some of the most gothic, fascinating stories out there! There are volumes of studies on them. And the writers have an entire library to choose from.
Frankenweenie is not a literal translation of Frankenstein- it’s a contemporary children’s story that is a nod to it.
I’m not sure I entirely believe them about the idea of introducing Marvel comic characters. I’m not convinced they would fit very well in the show either.
I mean, I’m not going to stop watching this show if they take it in such a strange direction…but I think the writers are too smart to do that. The show is going to get awfully complicated if they keep adding other worlds to pull from. Frankenstein doesn’t belong in the forest, so he would have to be pulled from a whole other portal. Ditto for the superheroes.
angiebelleParticipantOh, I believe they can make anything they want to work, work. I trust them. I’m not saying it’s impossible- only that I don’t like the idea as it stands, and I don’t think it’s likely…it would be a real stretch to make it work- rather like shoehorning it in. But I guess we will have to wait and see.
Everyone always references making Rumple the Beast…but they *didn’t* make Rumple the Beast, not really. The Beast doesn’t exist in this version of the story. Rumple is playing that role, but he is a completely different character with a different background and different motives. The Belle and Rumple love story is one of my favorite arcs though. Honestly, every surprise turn they’ve done has worked perfectly and has flowed organically with the show. They don’t usually pull something from way out in left field.
angiebelleParticipantWell, see that’s just it- I don’t think of Frankenstein as a STORY book. It’s an adult Victorian novel. I’m not saying I’m counting it out completely, but I’m not thrilled with the idea and hope they don’t go that route.
Sure, any world is fair game technically, but there still has to be a connection somewhere. It has to make sense. If it’s arbitrary, the story loses credibility.
angiebelleParticipantI don’t care for the theory that Dr. Whale is Frankenstein. That book does not fit in the least within the world we have been presented. The character of Dr. Frankenstein has no reason to be in an enchanted forest. He is from a completely different era and setting.
