ParticipantGreat choices, Mia. Also, another good comic is “The Unwritten” which offers another take on the “stories are real” angle.
Currently, I’m attempting to get back into “House of Leaves” by Mark Danielewski. I hate putting a book down for a long while and having to find the motivation to return to it…but so far it’s a good book – a freaky, weird, strange book.

Participant4 continued) Realizing Snow’s statement was a nod to the other versions of the story, my question is whether her statement can fit in Once Upon A Time’s world without being a contradiction of the script.
You are right about that. As seen in the last two episodes, Snow learned why Regina did not like her and it wasn’t because Regina thought Snow was prettier. This inconsistency could be because the writers changed the direction of the show. Early on, someone else was supposed to play Maleficent but the writers changed gears and Kristin Bauer was given the role. I don’t know if this next difference has anything to do with the direction change, but the Blind Witch seen in “The Thing You Love Most” is different than the one in the episode featuring Hansel and Gretel. Without knowing the specifics of what the show’s direction may have been, I can’t say anything for sure but yeah, that statement from the pilot does contradict what’s been stated in later episodes.

ParticipantI think Regina does really love Henry as though he was her son in every way. This is a touchy subject with some people. Foster/step parents can love the children they take in, just as much as biological parents, more so in some cases. I think that would be one point of contention with me is if Regina is made out to have absolutely no heart/redeeming quality whatsoever. Regina didn’t have a clue who the child was that Mr. Gold found for her so she hasn’t made any “plans” for him. She raised him the best way she knew considering her own upbringing. Emma knows Henry all of a minute when compared to Regina and it’s her kiss that wakes him up?! WTH is that?

Only Read if you watched all of Season 1:
1) Who is the fairest of them all?:
Pilot – Snow to Charming:
Snow says to Charming:
“She poisoned an apple because she thought I was prettier than her. You have no idea what she’s capable of”I think that was just a throw-back to the original Snow White cartoon. That was the sole reason why the Evil Queen hated her, because the Magic Mirror declared that she was prettier than her. So really, the Disney Snow White was essentially a ‘beauty contest.’ OUAT gave it more depth though.
That was actually the point of the original fairy tale. The evil queen was vain and didn’t like the mirror stating Snow White was fairer than she. The evil queen tried to kill snow three different ways and the apple stuck, literally. The ending to the actual fairy tale is different than the Disney movie, as well. The evil queen is forced to wear iron shoes that had been heated in an oven and dance in them until she dropped dead.

ParticipantI thought of Emma as soon as I heard this song.

I hope so. There’s so much mystery around him like how did he get out of the hat?
Was Jefferson trapped in the hat or did he just hide? I’m still very skeptical about that.
I don’t think Jefferson ever fell into the hat Emma made. If he did, then he’s the one who used up all of SB’s magic leaving only enough to reach in for an apple. I’m thinking he did some kind of acrobatic act when he went out the window, then hid in SB keeping an eye on his daughter.

ParticipantAnd to add, for those interested in ‘twu wuv’, I know OUAT has got it’s Rumpel/Belle shippers but Fables has the Frog Prince and Riding Hood.

ParticipantFables is awesome. I’ve read all story arcs up to just before “The Great Fables Crossover”. It’s well worth the read, especially since it was the forerunner to the OUAT we all know and love. ABC was in talks to make Fables into a tv series but went with their own vision instead.
Oh, and the whole Snow White with the Big Bad Wolf thing is pretty hot! Now, if someone could write a crossover between the two, that’d be some funny wierd stuff.

Rumpel lies by omission. He does not say what he means.
True enough that he commits ‘sins of omission’ but how else is he going to get anyone accept a deal? Is it his fault if they don’t dig for details? Rumpel is so powerful himself but also knows the strength of need and greed that he doesn’t have to worry about making bold-faced lies.
