Bar FarerParticipant
It seems too coincidental for it to be unintentional. They have forsaken all logic with the scene of Guinevere saving Lancelot to recreate the same scene from season 4B finale.

Bar FarerParticipantI’m gonna watch the second season of UnREAL as well.
"All your questions are pointless"
Bar FarerParticipantI think when it comes to fandom, the important question to ask to understand it is why. Why do some people engage in a particular show in such a way yet other shows completely pass them by without batting an eyelid? Why does a show gain such a large fanbase yet another one doesn’t?
There are tons of reasons, and certainly the ones you pointed to. I think one of the biggest, for OUAT, is nostalgia. Not only for the Disney characters we all know and love but for “childhood,” even if we weren’t all children during Disney’s greatest eras (like the Disney Renaissance). Disney’s symbolic nature almost automatically invokes nostalgic feelings of childhood–of a time when we believed happy endings and magic not only *could* exist but *did* exist. Nostalgia is one of my favorite emotions because it’s caught between being good and bad. It’s a fond remembrance of days gone by but it’s also painful because you have to recognize that you’ll never get back to that state of being. Nostalgia literally, in Greek, means the pain from an old wound/longing for a “homecoming.” I think that’s what OUAT promised us at first: a chance to go back in time to watch these very classic, very old, very beloved tales (with a twist) that would allow us to escape back to childhood, to come “home” back to an age when we believed that magic was all around us, that happy endings could come to us, and that wishes do come true. That’s why S1 was so darn powerful–because we all recognized ourselves in the characters, be it the lonely orphan who was closed off after being rejected, the angry and scared woman who just wanted a happy ending, lovers separated by fate and circumstances, a father desperate to find his child….stories that were fantastical but grounded in human emotion and feelings that spoke to us with a promise that through magic, through faith, and through hope happy endings would come to them (and us by extension because of our ability to empathize with the characters).
I so much agree with this and this is why it is so painful, to me at least, to see this show turn into a huge mess.
"All your questions are pointless"
Bar FarerParticipantAt least not in the network/ad buyers realm. We, the viewers, are the ones being sold. The ad buyers are buying our time, our eyes, our desire to check out the whatever they’re shilling out.
Ah, that’s an excellent point. I always forget that from the network’s perspective, a show is just a canvas to use for ads. From that perspective, perhaps the comparison with a fiction author isn’t fair — there aren’t any ads in a novel, so that’s a different kind of “product” being sold, and perhaps a different relationship to the audience.
Yes, it’s not really fair to compare OUAT to A Song of Ice and Fire because they are completely different and the process of making them is different. However, it is fair to compare OUAT to Buffy, and Joss never treated Buffy the way A&E are treating OUAT.
"All your questions are pointless"
Bar FarerParticipantI believe that the main problem is that A&E no longer try to tell a story anymore, but rather to sell a product. For a long time they have underestimated their fans, thinking they only care about ships and the Disney stuff, which some do, but most want to see a story with characters being told. Therefore, A&E thought they can get away with presenting a story with inconsistencies and continuity errors.
"All your questions are pointless"
Bar FarerParticipantPretty much Game of Thrones and Outlander.
"All your questions are pointless"
Bar FarerParticipantI forgot. Let’s not forget the Lady of the Lake. It would be nice to see her in the flesh at last. Last time she was mentioned, Lancelot was sent to fetch her by the Charmings and Merlin to fight against the new dark one (hook) that Emma made against his will. But we never saw him or her after that.
She was used as a flimsy excuse for Lancelot to go away because he wasn’t in Storybrooke. I don’t expect them to be mentioned again.
"All your questions are pointless"
Bar FarerParticipantI don’t know if this is possible unless Emma has some residual darkness left in her. Didn’t her parents perform the work of the serum by transferring her darkness to Lily?
That’s a good point. I’m not sure what “other” Emma would come out. Would it maybe be S1 jaded and aloof Emma??
The real Emma.
"All your questions are pointless"
Bar FarerParticipantSo they decided to put Colin on the side. It should have been Josh.

Bar FarerParticipant>1) What was your favorite episode of S5B?
Only You/An Untold Story, but can we really say they were in the same arc. Souls of the Departed was fine as well.2) What was your least favorite episode of S5B?
Brothers Jones, Firebird
3) What did you think of Hades and the Underworld
Not good. Hades could have been interesting, but his motivation constantly changed so I had no idea what he really wanted or what his goal was – was it to not have hope in the UW?, was it to beat Hook?, to make everyone stuck?, which isn’t aligned with wanting Regina gone at the beginning?, was it to to hurt his brother with time travel? Was it to find TLK with Zelena? Was it to rule SB?!? I still don’t understand why did it bother Emma to be with Hook in UW? Why is it so different than SB? What are the stakes?4) What was your favorite and least favorite moment?
Favorite moment – Neal, Henry sr, David and Henry, a lot in the finale.
Least favorite moment – everything involving Hook or Zelena.
5) We had a lot of old favorite (and least favorite) characters return this arc; which character did you most like seeing? Who do you wish we saw?
No one.
6) Thing you’re most looking forward to in S6?
I want them to lose all distractions – ships, Disney, pointless characters, pointless adventires and concentrate on family dynamics.
>7) Overall grade and final thoughts on S5B?
I didn’t like this season, it might have been better than 3B,4B and 5A but I still think it was a huge mess. A lot of side plots amounted to nothing (Author Henry?!?) So what was the point in doing them?, also nothing in terms of characters development.</p>"All your questions are pointless"
