ParticipantAgreed. If Josh and Ginny decided not to renew their contracts, I think A&E would be hard-pressed to end the show. I hear that Ginny is expecting her second child, which does leave a question in my mind as to whether she’d continue to work full time with two small children at home. I could see her stepping down as a series regular while Josh continues to work full time. She might just become a reappearing guest star or something (or else have fewer scenes like she did in S3b).
Agreed. I would assume Ginny would have told A&E that she wanted no part of a sixth season by now, and if that was the case, A&E would have wanted to wrap it up this season I feel. And if that’s true, we as fans would know if this was the last season or not by now. Since ABC hasn’t said anything, I’m assuming at the very least, there will be a season 6 and Ginny will be part of it, even if it is in a guest role until they need her for the very end. I will say however, I expect Snow and Charming to be pivotal at the end of this. With this whole sharing a heart thing, my prediction has always been that the two of them would bite the dust together in a last moment of glory to save Emma and or save baby Neal, which would mirror the pilot. And right now, the characters are just in limbo until the writers need them for the end. And if A&E let Ginny and Josh know there future plans for them, maybe that’s incentive enough for the two to stick around. And as Rumples Girl corrected, ABC let fans know way before season 6 of LOST started that it would be the final season. And I think the show benefited a ton from announcing an end date in advance. Gosh I miss Lost…
I think you give A&E more credit that they see this show more than just a job, they wouldn’t end the show and let a lot of people lose their job just because of one actress.
The situation with Snow and Charnimg you depicted can very well be at the end of the current season while the rest of the characters just move on, there’s no need to keep them in a limbo just for the final episode, or they could just be living together off screen until they are relevant to the plot, that is another possibility.
In the end, tv is business and bts situations can change what we see on screen. There are a lot of examples of TV shows where characters left the show because the actors wanted to or were fired while their characters were important to the show and the ending (e.g. Charmed, Grey’s Anatomy, etc…), also stating that a show ends before the season starts happens rarely and usually when the creators don’t want to continue, which was the case with Lost. If it’s up to abc, they would want to see what happens with ratings before they decide to cancel a show and that happens after some episodes aired.

ParticipantLoL. Ginny is not that subtle, calling the characters hypocrites and that they’d be willing to do anything.
Wow, I hadn’t seen that interview of Ginny and Josh before. You can really tell from Ginny’s demeanor and body language that she just isn’t buying it anymore. I think Josh was at least trying to give an account of what motivates his character, but you could hear in the tone of Ginny’s voice and by her curt answers that she’s totally done with this version of Snow White.
I can’t blame her. They really didn’t handle their characters very well. They were pretty much background characters in 4A and 5A, and when they had something for them in 4B, they retconned their backstory and assassinated the characters.

ParticipantI can’t seem to find anything about the actors’ contracts, but as far as I know season 5 is the final season they are contracted to do. I would be very surprised if Ginny, Josh, Robert and Emilie continued to season 6.
I would be very surprised if this was the last season. Based on the ratings, what ABC execs have said, and just where the story currently is (don’t think they can wrap it up successfully in a half season), I fully expect season 6 to be the last, no matter what the contracts are. It would be very disappointing if they had to end it short. The writers would want to tell the fans when the final season was, or when they were ending it. If they cut it after this season, it would not be part of the plan.
Yes, the ratings suggest that there will be a sixth season, but this has no effect on the actors and their contract. They can have a sixth season without them if they are no longer obligated to do it.
They pretty much wrap everything in 11-12 episodes now, making every season a self contained story and such. They really don’t have that much to resolve in order to finish it.
The show will end when abc wants it to end, not A&E (A&E will never end it if it was up to them). But since OUAT is a long running show, abc will tell A&E in advance. Tha fans won’t know it till towards the end of the season.
To sum it up, there is no question about season 6. There will be season 6. The question is which actors will continue to do the show.

ParticipantSo I was Tv-Troping (is that a thing? Can that be a thing? I’m making it a thing.) and I read on the trivia page for OUAT the following:
Creator Backlash:

Robert Carlyle hated that Neal was killed off, feeling Rumple’s character lost his main motivations afterwards.

Amy Manson not-so-subtly retweeted a couple of fan tweets complaining about the Season 5 winter finale.

Ginnifer Goodwin has also subtly hinted that she’s not happy with the direction Snow’s character went.

Did we know this? That’s interesting. I later googled it to see if I could find the tweets and found this on a wiki:
However, following the airing of the winter finale, Manson reacted negatively on Twitter, retweeting two posts that sent hate towards the show. It has been speculated by fans of the series that Manson has reacted in such a way due to her scenes in the episode being cut out, which are presumed to have resolved her character’s story. The tweets were later un-retweeted though, and showrunner Adam Horowitz has spoken that Manson emailed him, apologizing, and claims to have only “accidentally” retweeted the harsh tweets. It’s said that Manson is set to return sometime during the second half of the fifth season.
I never heard about any of this. Did you guys?
I remember hearing something about it. It’s interesting reading the trivia page on tvtropes including: “Christie Laing, who plays Marian, didn’t know that Marian was actually Zelena in disguise in season 4 until “Heart of Gold”. “Colin O’Donoghue had no idea Hook was a second Dark One for the first half of Season 5. ” This explain why the reveals come so out of left field, even the actors don’t know how they should be playing something because they’re not told what’s going on until after the fact.
I don’t think the writers knew at the beginning. It always felt like something they just pulled from their a..brains. They didn’t even have Zelena say anything about being frozen and it left a lot of unanswered questions. It’s as if..it never really happened (like a lot of things on the show).

ParticipantYes, I’ve heard about those. I also heard that Lana said she didn’t like the episode “The Evil Queen” and that Ginnifer was disgusted with Robin and Regina’s relationship in season 4.

ParticipantI want to consult with you about Game of Silence, I really want to watch it, but I’m hesitant about it because after OUAT has betrayed me (and frankly not just OUAT), I feel like dropping network TV all together because I don’t know if the writers will be truthfull to the story and characters or just gonna do everything according to fans and ratings. Maybe it’s just best if I stick with cables and net series cause they do care about the quality of what they produce. What do you think?
When game of silence premiere, they already filmed all season 1, so they cant do any fan service, also GoS is considered dark and cable story and NBC decided to pick it bc was good, so they pick a show that they know may not have huge ratings, but the quality of the writing and story was good.
Here is a interview from the TCA panel where they talk about the show:
Sounds promising and I do like when seasons are produced before they are aired because things won’t change based on fans’ reaction and it would tell a much more cohesive story.
However, it seems like the source had only 2 seasons and 28 episodes. The question is what happens when they outrun the source material and continue for more seasons?
I’ll give it a try because it does sound good and it is aimed for a much more mature crowd so it probably won’t have the shipping curse. I just hope I won’t get disappointed and be stuck with another show that should’ve ended sooner rather than later like so many others.

ParticipantAre we talking about the thing with Snow and Charming that didn’t happen? I don’t seem to recall any of the baby snatching or transferring darkness you all are talking about.
