Bar FarerParticipant
To me it seems like the writers decided to have Hook be the murderer of Charming’s dad only to give him (and only HIM) angst over it right after he got Charmong’s blessing and before proposing to Emma, it was portrayed as he suffers and we should feel bad for him (charming was comepletely irrelevant).
When time came when the writers needed to actually have Hook face with the consequences, they decided to put that specific conflict aside, probably because they didn’t know how to do it without making him look bad (usually when characters are called out by other characters they don’t tend to look very goog), so they have him being sent elsewhere, thus creating a different conflict easier to resolve.
Everyone is worried about him and by the time he comes back, all is forgotten and forgiven. In my opinion, it is just lazy writing, leading to an unearned and an unsatisfying conclusion to this storyline.

Bar FarerParticipantAnother thing that bothers me is that in order to make everything work with season 1 continuity (as I see it, they ruined its mythos, not its continuity), the flashbacks were basically pointless, Snow and Charming remembered, stuff happened, snow and charming forget. They didn’t even explore what the characters felt about this present day and they treat it as if it’s no big deal, Emma didn’t have any reaction to the fact that her parents could have been with her when she was 10! THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A HUGE DEAL (this revelation would have been too late as well, but that’s what happens when you write something without planning ahead). Emma doesn’t react to anything when it is not about Hook. Another instance is in the previous episode Henry went through some weird Author magic and the writers didn’t think it was important enough to let Emma know about this.
Anyway, the only purpose of the flashbacks is to introduce this flower which could have been done without ruining season 1 mythos.

Bar FarerParticipantI knew they would do “I Know What You Did Last Summer” eventually.

Bar FarerParticipantCould this week’s ratings be riding off of last week’s good episode eg more people tuning in for this week’s because of last week’s and so on and so forth?
My guess is that people were looking forward to the Snowing centric.
"All your questions are pointless"
Bar FarerParticipantThey could have gone to Emma, could have told her that they are her parents, prepared her for her destiny and brought her back to storybrooke on her 28th birthday.
So they wouldn’t have tried to raise her, just told her about her destiny and come back for her on her 28th Birthday? Would she have believed it though? And if they tried to raise her, how would that have worked logistically with her being in the foster system? They would let Snow and Charming just “kidnap” her.
They could have told her they were her parents, easily proven with a DNA test, made something up for the system for why they had to give her up, then told Emma the truth about everything, raise her, then Emma is 28, all three of them head to storybrooke in order for Emma to break the curse (sure Henry doesn’t exist but they didn’t know that when they had to make that decision).
"All your questions are pointless"
Bar FarerParticipantThe flower was definitely a major retcon, that could have solved many problems in the show’s previous seasons. But Snow and Charming not going through the door kind of made sense to me. Let’s say they go through the door. What happens then? Do they claim to be her parents and kidnap Emma? She could have still come to town at age 28, but would that have meant Snow and Charming would’ve had to wait 18 years with their memories until Emma broke the curse.
They could have gone to Emma, could have told her that they are her parents, prepared her for her destiny and brought her back to storybrooke on her 28th birthday.
"All your questions are pointless"
Bar FarerParticipant“It’s okay. I didn’t exactly make it easy for you to tell me the truth” – Emma blaming herself about Hook lying to her.
"All your questions are pointless"
Bar FarerParticipantI have a pointless question: Snowing remembered that stupid flower after the curse was broken, why didn’t the gang look for it in order to bring Emma and Snow back back in season 2? or Henry in season 3? or Anna in season 4? or Emma in season 5?
"All your questions are pointless"
Bar FarerParticipantWhy are there people who still like this show? I’m seriously asking this show is objectively awful.
"All your questions are pointless"
Bar FarerParticipantMost of those things were retcons added later in the series. Hook never started out as “orphan abandoned by everyone” and his character was never about that. That was actually Baelfire.
