    You’re welcome!

I got the impression that Emma was aware of her feelings for him still in Manhattan, but she is so angry and hurt that she is putting up the biggest wall she can to hide them. She must have had thoughts about it during the necklace and dreamcatcher scenes. Both Neal and Rumpie catch her in unconscious actions that pertain to her feelings.

I think her biggest issue is fear of being hurt if she allows herself to feel or be vulnerable around Neal again. She’s deeply into self-protection mode right now, and I think what she needs most is reassurance from outside sources that Neal isn’t going to break her heart any time she opens up to him. That’s going to take time and experience, so how they handle the Tamara situation with the whole Love Triangle v2.0 is going to be important.

The sleeping curse doesn’t frighten me quite as much as any potential… “who killed/kidnapped Tamara” framejob stories. Oy. That would just be the worst for me. 👿

With the way that Bae accused Rumple of hurting people all the time, I think it makes sense that he’s seen Rumple already making deals to amass more power. That is probably why their home and possessions are better at this point. When Bae shakes Rumple’s hand and says, “The deal is struck,” he sounds like he could be repeating the process that Rumple used for deals early on. If he’s seen the consequences that Rumple has inflicted on people for breaking deals already, then his screaming at Rumple about Rumple breaking their deal takes on another level of accusation. Not only is Rumple abandoning him, but Rumple is also a hypocrite who punishes people for doing what he himself is about to do.

I’d love to see more flashbacks to flesh this part of the story out. Dylan’s portrayal of young Baelfire is fantastic, and seeing the dynamic of young Bae with Rumple is a great contrast to adult Bae with Rumple. Of course, I love all Bae and Rumple scenes, so I’m unashamedly greedy about wanting more of them.

I adore that scene. You can see how much they still get under eachother’s skins, and it’s done in such a funny way. It’s one of a handful of really cute moments and lines tied up in a very dramatic and troubled reunion. I love scenes where they manage to incorporate so many emotions and changes in such a short space.

LOL Yeah, we’ve got two races under our belts for the triple crown. Only one left to go! “Come on, NealfirePan! You’re in the homestretch!” *waves racing ticket* 😆 That really does sound kinda like a racehorse name.

K&H’s podcast was something that I found very positive for both Nealfire and Swanfire, while listening last night to both that and the Once podcast. Just wanted to copy a section that slurpeez108 brought up in the Henry Product of True Love thread:

Podcaster: Neal obviously still loves Emma.
Eddy: I think that when Emma in the bar scene says she made a deal, he knows what happens when people make deals with his father. And he does, of course, love her. He gave her up because August said she had to fulfill her destiny rather than give her up because he fell out of love with her. And, I think, unfortunately, so much time has passed and so much stuff has happened and she’s so hurt that he understands that, at least in his mind, it was a door that got closed off to him, but that doesn’t mean you stop loving someone. https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/once-upon-a-time/id561291113?mt=2

So we do have confirmation that Neal still loves Emma. At the same time, they say that in Neal’s mind Emma’s so hurt after all this time and with all that happened that he thinks that door is closed to him. Even believing that she’s closed off to him, he still loves her. Of course, they are very careful with how they word this, because they never say that Emma really is closed off to him. I’m hoping that will become more clear to Neal over the rest of this season. He didn’t get to see her marvelous reaction to the dreamcatcher, but I’m hopeful about him seeing the bug at some point and hopefully August will tell the rest of the story about his breaking his promise to Neal before he gets rewarded with becoming a little boy again.

That’s one of the best catches yet from this episode! Rumple was too upset to think clearly apparently in those moments. I wonder if later Rumple caught the logic there before ranting about the pesky details years later. He was very naieve in the past, and hopefully his conversation with Henry shows that he’s learned something about the trickiness of prophecy and seeing the future… as the Seer predicted he would.

Yeah, I loved that on the K&H podcast. It’s exactly the way that Nealfire appeared to me in the show. I think his giving Emma up parallels Snowing’s experience of sending her here through the wardrobe. Both he and they made the best plans that they could under the situation as they knew it. Snow was originally supposed to go through still pregnant, so that she’d be there after giving birth to guide Emma. Neal gave Emma everything he had to offer support to Emma after she would be released from jail and made August promise to be there to support and help Emma if Nealfire couldn’t be the one to be there.

For both parties everything went wrong because of August. Snow didn’t know about the second wardrobe slot that August got, and then August ran out of their unpleasant foster home. In both wardrobe and foster home instances I can’t really blame him, since he’s just a little kid. In Neal’s case August completely breaks their deal as an adult, steals all of the money that was supposed to help Emma get a good start, and runs off to Thailand to do things I don’t really want to think about. No wonder the guy is turning to wood when Emma decides to stay in Storybrooke.

While Snow and Charming at least expect that they are sending Emma to our world alone, Nealfire doesn’t know that everything has gone wrong until he meets Emma again and she’s yelling at him. He wasn’t happy about her even going to a minimum security prison for what he felt he should have served instead, and he did everything he could to give her a good start when she gets out. That’s what the car and money were meant to do. To help the woman he loves. For a man who was living in that car to give up both his home and the money that could have given him a fresh start to the person he loves is a big thing.

When Nealfire meets Emma again he seems to have the expectation that his sacrifice and the guidance of August would have helped Emma to be in a good place after getting out of jail. She was supposed to have those things to support her and help her to not only be her best self but to help her find her family. He knows that she broke the curse, because August at least honored his promise to send Nealfire a postcard when Emma did what she was destined to do. In light of that he has no reason to suspect that things went so wrong.

It’s kinda heartbreaking to see how joyful he is to see Emma again in those first moments. He might even believe that August has already told her everything and that could be the reason Emma is there to find him. Then Emma starts freaking out and yelling, and Neal goes through these stages of realization about how badly things have gone for Emma. Seeing her hurting hurts him, and you can see his moments of hope and the moments when his hopes die during their discussion. JMo and MRJ were both so amazing in their scenes.

I also think the episode demonstrates a good reason why Nealfire couldn’t be the one to be there for Emma. We already know that this curse was all about Rumple finding his son. The first thing that Rumple does once learning that Nealfire loves Emma is to threaten Emma in order to get Nealfire to talk to him. He’s not above exploiting Nealfire’s concern for Emma to get what he wants in that situation. If Rumple had learned early on that Emma was the one Nealfire loves, she’d have been his valuable chess piece to threaten when he wanted Bae to listen or do something. Nealfire’s presence could have placed Emma in danger. Instead Emma benefitted by having Rumple’s help breaking the curse because he wanted to find Bae. While Nealfire doesn’t know the details of why he couldn’t be the one to be there for Emma, I think it was true that he couldn’t.

Exactly, CrownedWithLaurels! He was even willing to do the jailtime in her place. He wasn’t happy about having to let her go. It wasn’t easy for him.

Neal and Emma were living in a car, stealing to eat, and sneaking into motels just to shower. I’d call that facing adversity together. They wanted to create a steady and stable life together before August popped up talking about magical destinies and calling Neal by his FTL name. At that point Neal let Emma go so she could find the family she’d always longed for. That’s selfless. I cannot blame him for not feeling that he could follow her. I love Rumple but he was a magically addicted murderer who scared the heck out of Bae before abandoning him. If Bae had to go a seperate way until fate caught up to him again, I can’t condemn him for it.

Mary Margaret and Emma talked about the stories in the book during season one as well and about how Henry thought MM was Snow and Emma was her child. I see to remember MM being surprised by Snow having a daughter, and Emma said these were apparently not the traditional versions of the stories. So MM seemed to only know the traditional Snow White version from our world.

The only father and son casting that springs to mind for me is Ben and Owen, but I don’t know where they will actually fit in or their episode off the top of my head. I wasn’t thinking they’d be Rumple related, but that would be interesting. I’m very intrigued by Rumple’s dad and the spinsters, as well as the cycle of abandonment.

Swanfire deserves all the love! Been enoying having more action on the tumblr tags for it. Can’t wait for your video! Loading up on Swanfire goodies and discussions sounds like a perfect way to pass the hiatus. <3
