More news on the upcoming Beauty and the Beast. It was initially planned to be a straight adaptation of Robin McKinley’s “Beauty”, but now I think that it’s going to be a looser adaptation, or just partially guided by that retelling. This makes me excited, as that novel is lovely. Though, if they go the direction of “Beauty isn’t actually physically attractive” and cast Emma Watson as the main character, I’m going to eye roll a little 🙂

Firstly, thanks so much for the link! I’ve been waiting what seems ages for a glimpse. Awesome clip, too! 🙂 Can’t Mr. Gold just heal Henry’s burns with magic? If he could successfully reattach Victor’s arm, a little burn shouldn’t be too hard.[/spoiler]
Good point. Perhaps he can only heal non-magical wounds such as sword wounds, Bae’s scraped knee, and Whale’s ripped off arm?

Isn’t there some action-flick version of Hansel and Gretel coming out at some point?
I have to say though, I am extremely excited for Guillermo Del Torro’s plans for an upcoming version of Beauty and the Beast with Emma Watson as the main character. His fairytale-ish works are dark, whimsical and well-written (Pan’s Labyrinth, The Orphanage) and I can’t wait to see what his take on this one is! (Also, apparently one of the producers worked on Ed Wood and Edward Scissorhands), so I’m hopeful.
beautyistruthParticipantCliche, but both World of Warcraft and Skyrim have me feeling like a character running around FTL.

Question: How do you think Emma will react when she finds out that Mr. Gold has a son.
Jane’s response: I don’t think she will be gut-shot by him having a son. Other revelations, however, will floor her!
I remember a couple of us discussing over the summer the possibility that Rumple’s favor from Emma may be her tracking down Baelfire. Since we now know he cannot leave town – a lot of these answers have me thinking about that again..
Yeah, that has me thinking. As of now, the only other revelation would be Belle, but none of the other characters were particularly “floored” by that so far. Of course, it could be anything. The writers can always introduce something new.
Did we get confirmation that we’d find out what happened to Baelfire this season?
beautyistruthParticipantThat’s one thing I didn’t understand about FTL and the “good will always win” rationale. Good doesn’t always win. The Duke terrorized peasants and drafted little kids to a brutal war. Charming’s mother got killed. Peter got tied to a tree and eaten by his girlfriend because Granny had poor judgement. Graham had his heart ripped out for being a nice person. Clearly bad things happen to “good” people. I sort of hope K&H didn’t just retcon the idea of villains being doomed to always lose.
I don’t know which world they’ll want to stay in. They have both sets of memories, after all. Also, fairytale land looks like a pretty sad, post-apocalyptic place right now.
beautyistruthParticipantDoubt it. Snow is far and away not the jealous type. Also, Snow’s probably too busy trying to figure out her best-friend turned mother-daughter relationship with Emma, who is now the same age as her. They’re stretched thin as it is on having time to develop relationships that I highly doubt they’ll spend time showing Snow being jealous 🙂 That said, there’s always head canon!
beautyistruthParticipantYes. I was updating my professor’s book release blog. While posting positive reviews, I realized that one reviewer described him as the “Rumplestiltskin” of contemporary literature. That made me ridiculously happy.
beautyistruthParticipantSome more parallels as far as pairings go.
It took me a while to realize this, but Snow/Charming and their FTL story actually reminds me a lot of Elphaba and Fiyero from Wicked (musical verse). This surprised me because I thought that given Elphie being the reexamined Wicked Witch, her parallel would be with Regina. But, she’s such an unquestionable protagonist in the musical that I actually think her story parallels Snow’s much better. She’s on the run, she has propaganda posters against her, Regina has half the kingdom thinking that she’s a murderess, arsonist and traitor, and she’s trying to escape from the kingdom and live out the rest of her life alone somewhere. It’s all very Elphaba-esuqe. And Charming is quite Fiyero-esque, with his being trapped in an unhappy engagement, general gallantry, and perchance for saying “I’ll find you!” And there’s even a love triangle in present-day Storybrooke. Fiyero’s occasional screw-ups even reminds me of David Nolan’s screw ups. I guess the plot parallels aren’t always perfect, but I find a lot of similarities in terms of characterizations and situations.
November 14, 2012 at 11:48 pm in reply to: Regina and Rumplestiltskin-Who’s Worse? Can Either Change? #160791beautyistruthParticipantTrue, but earlier when Regina was faced with the ultimate choice “revenge on everybody vs. kill father” she very intentionally chose revenge and did the wrong thing. I think that both of them have done enough bad things that trying to figure out a body count for each individual is a poor way to figure out who is worse.
Additionally, I’m getting tired of the mudslinging going on in the fandom between fans of each of them. (There seems to be a bit more coming from Evil Regals, but that could just be because they hit all of my pet peeves). Thankfully, there’s none of that going on here. Love you guys!
